YMCA P.E. Waiver Program

Summer 2019 (10th-12th)

This is an alternative high school PE program designed to help students develop habits that lead to lifelong fitness and earn PE credits for school. Students are required to complete a total of 60-80 hours (or as dictated by their school) to earn credits toward their PE requirement. Students take group exercises classes, teen fitness classes, workout independently, maintain a booklet and meet with the program director throughout the program. This program is offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Membership cost:
$34/month + one time initiation fee $50 (ages 13-17)  Teen membership
$40/month + one time initiation fee $50 (ages 18-26)  Young Adult membership

Registration Fee: $30

May 14, 21, 28
4:30-5:30pm at Downtown Berkeley YMCA

To be eligible for the PE Waiver program, students must:


1.    Attend 1 YMCA P.E. Waiver Informational meeting.   The informational meetings  are offered only weeks prior to the start of a program semester. Students interested in the program are required to attend  in order to be eligible to register for the program. Our information meeting  is open to all high school students regardless of membership status. No registration required. Please show up early to sign in.



2.    Be a  Downtown Berkeley YMCA Teen or Young Adult members.  In order to participate in this program, you must be a current Downtown Berkeley YMCA teen or young adult member. Without this membership you will not have access to the facility to workout. A parent or guardian may purchase a Teen membership. If you are 18 or older, you are able to purchase your own membership. Memberships are available only at our front desk.

How to register:
Once items 1 and 2 are completed, the student will be eligible to register for the program. The registration fee is $30 per participant. Students or parent/guardian can register for the program. There are 3 ways to register:

Space is limited! Only 50 spots available.
Participants from previous semesters between Fall 2015-Winter/Spring 2019 are exempt from attending PE Waiver informational meetings.

Financial assistance for membership is available. Paperwork for financial assistance is available at our Welcome Desk. Those that would like to apply can do so, however applying early is suggested. Approval for financial assistance can take up to 4 weeks.


YMCA P.E. Waiver Program Requirements

To receive PE credits, students must complete the following items by the due date August 31 8:00pm:

·         60 hours of fitness  (min. 45 class hours; max. 15 independent hours)

·         Attend 2 Check In appointments with program director

·         Attend 1 Fitness Coaching  session

·         Complete Fitness goals worksheet

·         Maintain program  log booklet

REGISTRATION OPENS JUNE 3!

Once registered, students will receive a booklet to log their fitness hours and additional assignments. Students can start completing requirements as soon as they have their booklet. If you register over the phone or online, your booklet will be available for pick up from the front desk. Just show proof of registration receipt.
