Hello Berkeley High School!

*Tomorrow is the Day of Silence.* The GSA is calling for all Berkeley High
School students to take a vow of silence from first through sixth period in
order to protest the ways in which Berkeley and Berkeley High's community
remains unfriendly to LGBTQ+ students. We also hope to raise awareness for
how LGBTQ+ students are silenced in schools around the country. This
ongoing injustice is not only unacceptable, but also often goes unnoticed.
We hope you will join us in taking the vow of silence to show your protest
against it.

Tomorrow morning, we will be handing out signs to wear around your necks to
alert teachers and other students that you are taking the vow of silence.
You can get a sign before school at A Gate, M Gate, or in the courtyard.

Please also encourage your teachers tomorrow to bring your fourth, fifth,
and sixth period classes to the Breaking the Silence panel in the Little
Theater.

*The Berkeley High Coup Ultimate Club* has over 100 players on 5 teams.
There are 2 freshman boys teams (Lo Coux and Lo Qyu), one girls team
(Hysteria), and two upperclassmen "open" teams (Yellow and Red). Any
gender can play on an open team. Each team is coached by local club
Ultimate players (adults) who volunteer their time. Some of the coaches
play.

To play on Red, players must try out in late fall/early winter and are
chosen by the coaches. No other team requires tryouts - any player who
wants to play will be on a team (they just may not make Red). The Red team
competes in Division 1 of the local high school league. The Yellow team,
Lo Coux, and Lo Qyu compete in Division 2 of the high school league.
Hysteria competes in the girls division. High schools that compete in the
league include Foothill HS (Pleasanton), Gunn HS (Palo Alto), Bentley HS
(Lafayette), El Cerrito HS, Alameda (multiple high schools form one team),
and Bellarmine Prep (San Jose) to name a few. The only other SF Bay Area
team included in the rankings is Gunn HS.

The Red team was recently included in the top 25 high school team rankings
put out by Ultiworld. As of March 22, the team moved up one spot to number
14. The list is located here: https://ultiworld.com/youth-rankings/
