Calling all writers! Looking for a different type of English elective? Want to get published?
Next year's juniors and seniors can sign up for the class "literary magazine"!
This English/elective for juniors and seniors does double duty as a creative writing course and a publishing class. We will publish two issues of a literary magazine each year, and each class member will both develop a portfolio of their own short stories, creative nonfiction and poetry as well as serve in a specific function on the publishing team: editing, marketing, layout and graphic designer. Please email Ms. Faur at arynfaur at berkeley.net or stop by H207 for more information. If you want priority for sign ups, please send her your student ID and full name.

"The 2020 Leadership Team is looking for judges and MCs for the Talent Show!
This is a great opportunity, especially for the Chief of Publicity candidates to practice public speaking and experience a leadership-ran event. All inquiries please email Mr. V or talk to someone on Junior Class Leadership."

Come to a dance under the stars on Friday, February 22nd!
Tickets are $7 or $5 with an ASB sticker, and unlimited pizza, snacks, and drinks are included! They're available for purchase in the leadership office or several upcoming lunches at the senior steps.

Sign ups to audition for Romeo and Juliet on the C steps are due this Saturday, February 23rd!
If you want to act and gain theater experience in a supportive and inclusive environment, sign up for an audition at tinyurl.com/bhsRomJu. For questions, email maximehendrikseliu at students.berkeley.net

"Physics! It's at the heart of everything!
So you should learn it. Current sophomores and juniors interested in taking AP Physics 1 (algebra based, non-calculus) next school year should come to a short information session at the beginning of lunch in G214 on either Wednesday or Thursday this week."

AP Environmental Science:
Thinking about taking AP Environmental Science next year? Attend a lunch meeting with Ms. Harm on Thursday Feb 21st in Room G216. Get your questions answered and learn why so many students love this class.

Interested in working with your hands and project based learning?
Come to the Carpentry Shop in G112 at lunch on Thursday, February 28th for an information session. Learn about our new Carpentry and Digital Design classes.
Throughout the course of the year, students in the carpentry program will be engaged in a variety of individual and group projects, exercises and readings to build up their skills in construction, design and critical problem solving. This will include traditional methods of building with hand tools as well as cutting edge digital fabrication and modeling tools. Students will also be exposed to the range of career opportunities across the fields of fabrication, design and construction. Emphasis will be on hands-on projects that have constraints to guide their design but allow for individual creativity.

Do you speak two languages fluently? Are you a senior? Did you pass the California standards test in English language arts as proficient level or above?
If so, you may qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy. If you are interested in an application for the Seal of Biliteracy for your high school diploma, please see Ms Henrickson in M209, Ms Fullerton in M208 or Ms Stewart in C107 for an application. Applications are due March 22, 2019.

 Queer and Trans Literature:
BHS is offering a brand-new English elective next year for 11th and 12th graders from all learning communities. This course introduces students to LGBTQIA+ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, asexual, intersex, etc.) literature and culture. It is a yearlong course with English credit and elective credit (pending). You don't have to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community to enroll- come learn about experiences outside your own! To sign up, contact Mx. Hartman at jennhartman at berkeley.net or in room C-335, or ask your English teacher for more info.

Sakai, Japan, is Berkeley's oldest sister city, and the Berkeley-Sakai Sister City Association is looking for families to host 1 or 2 Japanese students next summer from July 26 to July 31. If you are interested in hosting and/or going to Sakai, please visit our website at www.berkeley-sakai.org and fill out an Interest Form. We would also like to invite you to our Annual Dinner on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Berkeley Methodist United Church.
