DOWNTOWN BERKELEY YMCA P.E. Waiver Program



This is an alternative high school PE program designed to help students develop habits that lead to lifelong fitness and earn PE credits for school. Students are required to complete a total of 60-80 hours (or as dictated by their school) to earn credits toward their PE requirement. Students take group exercises classes, teen fitness classes, workout independently, maintain a booklet and meet with the program director throughout the program. This program is offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.



Spring 2019 Program Details



Program Dates: January 15, 2019 - May 17, 2019

Membership cost: $34/month + one time initiation fee $50

Registration Fee: $30

Orientation Dates:  January 11, 16, 25; 4-5pm at Downtown Berkeley YMCA



To be eligible for the PE Waiver program, students must:

1.    Obtain a Downtown Berkeley YMCA Teen Membership In order to participate in this program, you must be a current Downtown Berkeley YMCA teen member. Without this membership you will not have access to the facility to workout. Cost of a teen membership is $34 a month (plus one time initiation fee of $50). A parent or guardian may purchase a membership at our Welcome Desk.


2.    Financial assistance is available. Paperwork for financial assistance is available at our Welcome Desk. Those that would like to apply can do so, however applying early is suggested. Approval for financial assistance can take up to 4 weeks.


3.    Attend 1 YMCA P.E. Waiver Orientation  Orientations are offered only weeks prior to the start of a program semester. Attending this orientation is mandatory in order to register for the program. This orientation is open to all high school students regardless of membership status. No registration required. Please show up early to sign in.


How to register:

Once items 1 and 2 are completed, the student will be eligible to register for the program. The registration fee is $30 per participant. Students or parent/guardian can register for the program. There are 3 ways to register:

Participants from previous semesters between Fall 2015-Fall 2018 are exempt from attending the PE Waiver orientation.
