Welcome to Coach Alejandro Mendoza

Berkeley High Girls Soccer, Head Coach

Coach Alejandro - or Ale as he's known by Berkeley soccer players - started coaching at Berkeley High as the Frosh Coach in 2014. In addition to coaching the Frosh team, Coach Ale was volunteering and assisting both JV and Varsity Girls Soccer for the Yellowjackets over the past 4 years.

Coaching women's soccer at both the Club and High School level over the past years has been combined with finishing up a degree in Recreation Management from Cal State East Bay (he graduates this Fall Semester!). Holding multiple soccer licenses already, Ale is furthering his coaching to work on the USSF C license this coming summer. He also has a National Diploma from the NSCAA (aka United Soccer Coaches), a Fiorentina Methodology Basics and Advanced Diploma and has completed Frans Hoek Goalkeeping Courses.

Ale began playing soccer when he was four, played Club soccer in the Bay Area and at St. Mary's College High School. After his first semester of college he required emergency shoulder surgery forcing him to take a semester off. He decided to try coaching and discovered a true calling. He was invited to play soccer again in college, but realized that he would rather be coaching the game! When he played soccer he felt at peace and satisfied and found that in coaching he could empower young athletes and appreciated being a part of their own success and the success of a team.

During his tenure at Berkeley High coaching in the Girls Soccer program, Ale has noticed and appreciated how unique this school community is and finds himself excited as each new season has been starting. Taking on the Head Coaching position and he looks forward to strengthening and furthering this program. He believes this a dream come true.

When not coaching Ale has most often been found doing college work. After his upcoming graduation he hopes to go on to achieve a Master's in Coaching and Sports Management. He enjoys being able to explore new places and new foods although he notices that even when he has a day off he often somehow ends up on a soccer field!

Current Licenses include: USSF Level VI, USSF E, USSF F, and USSF D.
