Red Ribbon Week

Monday: Did you know teens need about 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night to function best? Most teens do not get enough sleep - one study found that only 15% reported sleeping 8 1/2 hours on school nights. Try doing the same thing every night before you go to sleep, so you can teach your body the signals that it's time for bed. Try taking a bath or shower (this will leave you extra time in the morning).

Tuesday: According to a 2013 research article, the single strongest predictor of later-life physical activity for men in the study was whether they had played a varsity sport in high school, and this was also related to fewer self-reported visits to the doctor. Even if you're not on a sport at the school, look into community sports activities or just plan a pick-up game with friends after school.

Wednesday: Did you know students who stop using drugs or substances are more likely to have improvements in academic performance and school attendance? Stay involved with sports, jobs and extracurricular activities to stay busy outside of school time to stay on track with academics.

Thursday: Did you know that While using an e-cigarette is often called "vaping," the devices produce an aerosol, not a vapor. Unlike vapor, which is simply a substance in gas form, the aerosol from an e-cigarette can contain tiny chemical particles from both the liquid solution and the device (e.g., metals from the heating coil).

Friday: Students who have friends who care about learning had better educational outcomes--they were less likely to drop out of school and more likely to be enrolled in an academic program, graduate from high school, and continue their education after graduating. Remember to take care of your friends and help each other succeed in school and in the community.
