This is an exciting time in the history of the Berkeley Unified School
District. 50 years ago, the first official African American Studies
Department (AASD) in the nation began and has remained an official
department of Berkeley High School since its inception.  50 years
ago, Berkeley Unified School District began bussing elementary students
from all over the city to schools outside of their immediate neighborhood
to ensure BUSD schools were desegregated.



To celebrate, there will be various activities offered throughout the
district all year long. The 50th Year AASD Celebration Committee has taken
on four major events, and *WE NEED YOU! * If you can volunteer your time to
help at any of the four major events, would like to be involved in any of
the sub-committees working on marketing/publicity, fundraising, galvanizing
alumni, or have any other gifts/talents you would like to offer, please let
us know using our volunteer form
