CCC UPDATES FOR JUNIORS

COLLEGE INFORMATION NIGHT for Parents/Guardians of Juniors will be held on Thursday, March 8, at 6:30 pm in the Library. Hope to see you there!

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR COLLEGE ADVISER to discuss your post-high school plans! Links to set up appointments can be found in your emails, as well as the BHS CCC website. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend.

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE BHS COLLEGE FAIR on Sunday, April 29, in the Jacket Gym, and Case Studies Workshops in the C Building. Stay tuned for further details!

COME MEET WITH EXPERIENCED COLLEGE ESSAY READER AND APPLICATION SPECIALIST: Need help writing scholarship and college essays, applying for summer programs, creating resumes, and more? Come to the CCC to meet with our experienced volunteer Essay Reader and Application Specialist, Judith Friscia! Judith is excited to assist BHS students and is scheduled to be volunteering in the CCC after school on Thursdays and during lunch on Fridays. CHECKLIST OF TASKS TO GET READY FOR COLLEGE:
1. Stay on track with your classes and Grade Point Average (GPA).
2. Study for the ACT and SAT and register for tests by June 2018 if you are planning on 4 yr. schools.

4. Plan to come to the BHS College Fair on April 29, 2018. Stay tuned for more information about the fair.
5. Stay involved with extracurricular activities.
6. Think about teachers who would write a letter of recommendation.
7. Talk to your family about your college list and financial resources.
8. Apply for a summer job or internship.
9. Visit colleges.

STANDARDIZED COLLEGE ADMISSION TESTS (SAT AND ACT)

IS THE ACT OR SAT REQUIRED TO APPLY TO COLLEGE?
*CSUs (California State University): Yes, Essay portion not required
*UC (University of California): Yes, Essay portion is required
*Out-of-state public colleges and universities: Check each school's website for application requirements
*Private colleges and universities: Some schools require them, check each school you are interested in applying to

WHICH TEST SHOULD YOU TAKE?
The colleges that require standardized tests for admission will accept scores from either the ACT or SAT. The following website lists the differences between the tests, and offers free tests. Familiarize yourself with both tests to determine which is a better fit for you. There is no "better test."

FEE WAIVERS:
If you are eligible for free or reduced lunch, you are eligible for a test fee waiver and do not pay anything for registration. Please see Ms. Jacobs in the CCC Monday-Friday between 8 AM - 1:45 PM for the special waiver code.
If you never applied for the free lunch program, please ask a parent or guardian to apply on line: www.ezmealapp.com<http://www.ezmealapp.com/>. Families must enroll every school year.

SAT SUBJECT TESTS
SAT Subject Tests are college admission tests on specific subjects. They are not part of the standard application for CSUs and UCs. However, some specific programs and majors, like Engineering, may require them. Some private schools require them, so be sure to research colleges you are interested in, to see if you should take them.
