*Health Center Is Closed Today*

Because today is a holiday for City of Berkeley employees, the BHS Health
Center is closed today. Students with minor illnesses or injuries should
report to OCI or the main office for assistance.

*Earthquake Drill – Thursday, February 15*

On Thursday February 15, during 5th period, we will be practicing a school
wide earthquake evacuation drill. At the start of the period, there will be
an announcement to signal the beginning of the earthquake drill. You will
then hear the sounds of a simulated earthquake broadcast over the PA system
for approximately 60 seconds.

During this time, all students and staff should: DROP to the floor and take
cover under a desk or table if possible; COVER their head and neck with one
arm; and HOLD onto the leg of a desk or table. After the earthquake
simulation, all classes will evacuate from buildings the same way we would
during a fire drill. Stay tuned for more information coming soon to all
students via email!

*Reminders from the Admin and Safety Teams*

Here are a few reminders from your BHS administrative and safety teams:

· Restrooms are off-limits for the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of
every period.

· All students must have a pass before leaving the classroom; students
without a pass may be given a lunch detention, to be served in the Food
Court.

· Seniors with no 1st period or no 6th period should not be on campus
during those times without a specific purpose and a specific location.

· Independent Study students are welcome on campus when they are not in
class, but should report to the CCC (when appropriate) or the Library.
Safety Officers and administrators will regularly sweep hallways, the
courtyard and the Campus Green during class time, and will issue CUTs and
lunch detentions to students who are not in class. After dismissal,
students should proceed to 7th period, sports practice, teacher-led
tutorials, the Library, the CCC or off campus. Administrators and Safety
Officers will clear the entire campus at 3:45 pm each day; students cannot
hang out in hallways, the courtyard or the Campus Green after 3:45 because
there are no scheduled events in those areas.

Thank you, students, for your cooperation.

*Morning Sports Report*

On the soccer field, the boys varsity team capped off their Senior Night
celebration on Friday with a win against San Leandro, while the girls
varsity soccer team lost to Piedmont. In basketball action Friday night
against Piedmont High School, the boys freshman, JV and varsity teams won,
as well as the girls JV team. The girls varsity basketball team lost to
Piedmont.

The Berkeley Rhinos rugby team beat Santa Rosa over the weekend.

This is the last week of regular season play for the basketball teams, and
Senior Night for the boys varsity basketball team is this Friday night, as
they take on rival Bishop O’Dowd.

And congratulations go out to the girls wrestling team, who sent five
wrestlers to the North Coast Section Championship, and Eliza Bazakas came
away with a third place finish in her weight class!
