1. Girls Who Code: Summer Immersion Program: Application: Early Due 2/16/18; Final application due 3/16/18

Free 7 week programs for current 10th and 11th grade girls (rising juniors and seniors) to learn coding and get exposure to tech jobs. Applications for summer 2018 are now open! We have an early deadline of February 16, and the final application deadline is March 16.

In the Summer Immersion Program<http://www.girlswhocode.com/summer-immersion-program>, which is hosted by major tech companies, including Facebook, Twitter and GE, students will learn about:

  * Tech Companies -- They'll meet female engineers and get an inside look at technical roles in the world's top companies.
  * Project-based learning -- They'll learn computer science through real-world projects in art and storytelling, robotics, video games, websites, apps and more!
  * Sisterhood -- They'll work in teams and make lifelong friendships with a supportive and diverse community of thousands of girls.

In addition to providing a free program, Girls Who Code provides summer stipends of up to $1000 to cover transportation and living costs for Summer Immersion Program students who qualify!

2. Research & Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP) at Sacramento State, San Jose State and UC Berkeley: Due 2/28/18

The Research & Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP) is a summer commuter STEM program that places talented high school students (Grades 9 - 12), who may be underserved in STEM, in research apprenticeships at area universities. REAP apprentices work one-on-one with a university mentor on a research project throughout the summer. REAP apprentices are exposed to the real world of research, gain valuable mentorship, and they learn about education and career opportunities in STEM. Apprenticeships are 5 to 8 weeks and students receive a $1,500 educational stipend at the end of their summer apprenticeship.

Students should visit the Army Educational Outreach Program site (AEOP) to find out more about REAP, to locate a university and to apply:
http://www.usaeop.com/programs/apprenticeships/reap/

Student application/registration will close on February 28, 2018.

3. Level Playing Field Institute Summer Smash Program: Free for 9th graders: Due 3/1/18
For 1st gen, or low-income (eligible for free/reduced lunch), or certain under-represented minority groups:
http://www.lpfi.org/programs/smash/

5-week STEM summer intensives at UC Berkeley, UC Davis and Stanford

Applications due March 1

4. UC Berkeley Public Science Center Internships: Application Due 3/24/18
The Lawrence Hall of Science<http://www.lawrencehallofscience.org/> is currently recruiting youth for our Engineering Lab<http://www.lawrencehallofscience.org/visit/exhibits/design_build_test/ingenuity_lab>, and Floor and Special Events programs.

Join a year-round science education and youth development program that helps support STEM exploration and the college admissions process.

Teens have the opportunity to:

  *   Fulfill community service requirements
  * Develop job skills that include public speaking and customer service, self confidence and leadership, adaptability and flexibility to manage multiple assignments under changing conditions, and the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  * Learn about communicating science to the public
  * Find a safe way and a place to socialize with other youth and build interpersonal relationships
  * Enjoy the benefits of experiencing a work-related environment with Hall staff, UC Berkeley college interns, and other teens from all around the Bay Area.

Ideal candidates must be entering 9th grade or above and be able to attend the Mandatory Teen Orientation on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 11:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Youth who demonstrate a passion for science, technology, engineering, math, or education and/or are interested in working with the public are particularly well suited for the program. We hope to serve as the critical difference in our youth's choice or opportunity to pursue a STEM career and/or education.

Youth can apply HERE<https://www.lawrencehallofscience.org/get_involved/join_our_team/volunteer>; the application deadline is March 24.

5. Berkeley Lab Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI): Application due 3/2/18
