Opportunities to Give During the Holiday Season

If you have walked by the C Building gallery or the Leadership Office lately, you will notice several collection boxes and bins. We wanted to remind you about the various donation drives sponsored by BHS student clubs:
· PAW (Pet Awareness Club) is collecting food and other items for shelter animals
· Soccer Without Borders is collecting soccer equipment for children in Oakland
· Kids Books for Change is collecting children's books for patients at Children's Hospital Oakland
· ASB Leadership is collecting clothing and canned goods for this weekend's Holiday Meal

Please give what you can; thank you for your support!

Morning Sports Report

Yesterday the boys soccer teams traveled to Danville to play Monte Vista; the freshman team tied but the varsity team lost.

Today on the road, the girls JV and varsity soccer teams play Oakland Tech; the freshman boys basketball team plays in a tournament at Ygnacio Valley High School; and the girls varsity basketball team plays in a tournament at Antioch High School.

Here at home today, the boys JV and varsity soccer teams host Piedmont High School. Admission is free for students with ASB stickers, $4 for students with a valid ID, and $6 general admission.

Kwanzaa Celebration

The Berkeley High School African American Studies Department presents the 48th annual Community Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration and Potluck on Friday, December 15, during 4th and 5th period in the African Dance Studio. Kwanzaa is a time for family, youth, reflection, planning, and celebration. We would like to invite students, staff and your families to join us for an afternoon of music, dance, food and culture.

Students must have a permission slip signed by their 4th and 5th period teachers in order to attend; we are also asking for attendees to bring a dish to share with others. Permission slips are now available in the African Dance Studio and in the Counseling Center. Please see Mr. Byndloss in the Counseling Center if you have any questions.

December Arts Preview

Tomorrow night our Band and Orchestra performs in their annual Winter Concert at 7:00 pm in the Community Theater; admission is free!

For theater fans, the drama department's fall production, The Glass Menagerie, debuts tomorrow at 7:00 pm in the Little Theater; additional performances are December 9, 15, and 16.

Next week, the African Diaspora Dance Concert, Redemption - Gaining Control, will take place on Thursday, December 14 at 7:00 in the Berkeley Community Theater.

Principal's Office Hours

As she announced last week, our principal, Ms. Schweng, is holding office hours for students tomorrow, Friday, December 8, at lunchtime in her office, which is on the first floor of the D Building. While no appointment is necessary, feel free to let Ms. Schweng know if you're thinking of coming by sending an Email message to bhsprincipal at berkeley.net<mailto:bhsprincipal at berkeley.net>.
