Facing a $1.8 million budget shortfall in 2018-19, the Berkeley Unified
School District must make cuts, and what’s currently proposed will
significantly impact Berkeley High. *The PTSA is calling on BHS parents to
become informed.*



The District proposes to eliminate 1.5 academic guidance counselors, the
Dean of Attendance, 4 Safety Officers, and the Independent Study
Coordinator. These resources serve ALL student populations, and losing them
will affect the entire student body and overburden the remaining staff. The
PTSA is concerned that cutting these positions will compromise student
services at the high school. More information about these staff member

At its meeting next Wednesday, December 6th, the School Board may vote to
eliminate some of these positions.


*The PTSA asks you to urge the Board to POSTPONE deciding the fate of these
positions at BHS *until there has been some community outreach, the impact
of losing them has been assessed, and more options have been explored. At
this time you can take action in the following ways:


· *December 5th, from 5:30-7:30 *- *Attend* the Budget Committee meeting in
room 126 at 2020 Bonar Street.

· *December 6th from 7:15-8:00 PM* - *Address* the School Board during
“public comment” at the School Board Meeting Room at 2020 Bonar Street.
This requires filling out a comment card and giving it to the clerk by 7:15.

· *On or before December 6th 5PM - Write* BUSD decision makers

Interim Assistant Superintendent Pauline Follansbee, and School Board
Directors Alper, Hemphill, Appel, Daniels, and Leyva-Cutler:
