Over the weekend, the boys varsity team continued its winning ways with an
overtime victory over Dublin in the Nor Cal Tip Off Classic, and the girls
varsity team traveled to Stockton Bhis week all of the boys and girls
basketball teams play on the road. We look forward to welcoming them back
to the Donahue Gym next week.

Our Northern California champion boys varsity soccer team

makes its debut tonight in Pleasant Hill in a scrimmage game against
College Park High School. The boys JV soccer team

takes on College Park at 5:30, and the kickoff time for the boys varsity
game is 7:00. The boys varsity soccer team plays its first home game this
Wednesday night at Jacket Stadium, so mark your calendars and come out to
support the team!

The girls varsity soccer team

a quarterfinalist in last year’s NorCal championship, opens its season
tomorrow at Pittsburg High School. The girls JV soccer team

the road later this week in a tournament, but will play their first games
at Jacket Stadium next week.

*Soccer Without Borders Soccer Gear Drive*

The Soccer Without Borders club is hosting a soccer equipment drive this
week. We challenge you to go through your closets and pull out any
soccer-playing gear, including cleats, shin guards, socks, balls, and
athletic clothing. You don't have to play soccer to be able to help! This
gear will be used as soon as it's brought in, and will enable students to
participate in soccer. Bring your equipment to the bin in the C Building
2nd floor gallery. Many thanks!

*BHS Safety Committee*

The BHS Safety Committee
<http://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/information/committees/safety-committee/>
is recruiting parents, students, teachers and staff to join the Committee.
The Safety Committee discusses and recommends positions and strategies on
many issues related to school safety, including: traffic/pedestrian/bicycle
safety to and from school; reporting and handling crime at school; use of
restorative justice and other programs for at-risk students; bullying; hate
crimes; sexual harassment; environmental hazard reduction on campus, and
disaster preparedness. The Committee is also responsible for drafting the
state-required School Safety Plan.

The Safety Committee is a sub-committee of the School Site Council, and
meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 4:30 – 6:00 pm in the D
Building, Conference Room B. You are invited to join them at the next
meeting, which is tomorrow, Tuesday, November 28. Please see our Dean of
Students, Mr. Rok, if you would like more information about the BHS Safety
Committee.

*Quarter 2 Progress Reports*

Attention, students! The midpoint of the second marking period
<http://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/BHS-Grade-Schedule-2017-2018.pdf>
is this Friday, December 1. If you are at risk of failing any class, a
progress report will be mailed to your home next week.

We want every student to succeed and feel supported, so we’d like to offer
a few suggestions and reminders to all students:

· Make sure you attend every class, every day, on time

· Check in with your teachers about their policies for turning in late work

· Find out if your teachers stay after school to work with students, or get
help from the tutors at the College & Career Center until 6:00 pm Monday-
Thursday

· Visit the library if you need a place to study or if you need to print
assignments; it opens at 7:30 am Tuesday-Friday, and closes every day at 4:30
pm.

· Drop by the Counseling Center, the Health Center
<http://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/resources/health-center/> or OCI to talk
with someone if you’re going through personal challenges that are keeping
you from doing your best at school

· Find an adult on campus that knows you well – it doesn’t have to be a
teacher – and let that person know how they can help you do your best

Please take advantage of the resources available here on campus.

*Seniors: UC/CSU Applications Are Due on Thursday, November 30*

If you are graduating in June and are interested in going to college at a
CSU <https://www2.calstate.edu/apply> or UC
<http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/dates-deadlines/index.html>
campus, but you haven’t yet submitted your application, you only have a few
days left to complete your application, and the BHS College & Career Center
is here to help you!

Seniors can visit the CCC this week to complete CSU & UC Applications –
including the UC Personal Insight Questions – with College Advisors and
Essay Readers during class time with signed permission from your teacher,
like a college presentation visit. You must use the permission form sent to
you by Ms. Jacobs on November 16. Additional help is available at lunch in
the CCC, and after school from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm in the Library
Computer Lab.

CSU and UC applications are due on Thursday, November 30.

________

Have a great day, and stay hydrated, Berkeley High!
