Student Club Spotlight

Do you need help in addressing a problem in one of your classes? The BHS Advocacy Club is here to help! This brand new club is available as a resource to students AND teachers, meant to bridge the gap between the two and improve school culture by starting in the classrooms. We can help you with many different solution methods, catering to your specific needs and situation. If you want to learn more or get involved, come to a lunchtime info session this Wednesday, October 11th in H215 or any future Wednesday in the same room. Unity Week 2017

Unity Week 2017 is a great chance to celebrate and creatively display our school pride for BHS. Unity Week celebrates the passion, purpose & pride of our big red & gold family. It kicks off this Friday, October 13, with the Show of Unity, a whole-school assembly in the Berkeley Community Theater. There will be a special bell schedule on Friday, with an early lunch at 11:00, so that we can all gather together for the Show of Unity during 6th period.

To get into the unifying spirit on Friday, wear anything that has BHS or Berkeley High School on it, aka “Jacket Gear”. Need some Jacket gear? Visit the Leadership Office, near the Food Court, to purchase a Spirit Pack for $25. The Spirit Pack includes a BHS T-shirt, sunglasses, a bag and a lanyard. See you in the theater on Friday afternoon for an amazing show!

And here are the themes for the Unity Week dress-up days:

On Monday, October 16, the Freshman Class invites you to jam out in your jammies. Folks, we’re talking about PJ’s, so please keep the lingerie or boxer short-style sleepwear in the closet. Please cover parts of your body that are normally covered at school. See you at the Pajama Jammy Jam Fashion Show for giveaways and games on the Community Theater Steps (BCT) on Monday at lunch. Class of 2021, be on the lookout for events hosted by the Freshman Class Leadership team and Link Leaders on Monday!

On Tuesday, October 17, the Sophomore Class wants to you to answer the question, “Who is your superhero?” Superman? Wonder Woman? Luke Cage? Maybe members of your family, friends, or teachers? On Tuesday, we ask you to celebrate, in fashion, those superheroes who you believe help bring out the good each day. Please remember that no masks can be worn on campus, and keep any weapon-like items at home.

On Wednesday, October 18, represent the diverse cultures of the West Coast, sponsored by the Junior Class. From music to food, lifestyle to fashion, we have a lot to be proud of here on the left coast. Think Tupac, E-40, burritos, avocados, surfing, thrifting. Hope to see you in the courtyard for games and soaking in the good vibes of fall in the Bay Area. Remember: no swimwear and please cover parts of your body that are normally covered at school.

On Thursday, October 19, the Senior Class hosts Decades Day, featuring shoulder pads, flashy neon, big hair, acid wash jeans, gold jewelry, hi top fades and hi top sneakers among many totally radical choices. Freshman – 1960’s, Sophomore – 1970’s, Junior – 1980’s, Senior – 1990’s/2000’s. See you on the BCT steps at lunch on Thursday for great music, games, and photos. Also, come join the thousands of dancers at 12:10 to for the largest group Cha Cha Slide ever attempted. Everybody, clap your hands!

On our final day of Unity Week, Friday, October 20, let’s come together as one, big “uni-team” by wearing the school colors of Red and Gold. Just like the rest of the week, please make sure to keep your clothing school appropriate. Cover parts of your body that are normally covered at school. See you at the campus green next Friday for music and fun hosted by 106 KMEL and sponsored by your ASB Leadership team.

____________

Have a great day, everyone!
