The Berkeley High PTSA invites you to a *FREE* screening of the 2015
Sundance award-winning film *The Mask You Live In*, followed by a
conversation with Ashanti Branch, founder of the Ever Forward Club, whose
work is featured in the film.

The screening will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10th, in the
Florence Schwimley Little Theater on Allston Way.

*The Mask You Live In *takes a deep look at the damaging effects of our
culture’s narrow definition of masculinity. From suicide to substance abuse
to violence, society's narrow definition of what it means to "be a man" is
creating a host of unintended consequences, for young men as individuals
and for our society as a whole.

Pressured by the media, their peer group, and even the adults in their
lives, the boys and men in the film confront messages encouraging them to
disconnect from their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify
and degrade women, and resolve conflicts through violence. These gender
stereotypes interconnect with race, class, and circumstance, creating a
maze of identity issues boys and young men must navigate to become “real”
men.

Are you ready to witness and create some positive change? Whether you are
the parent of a girl or a boy, a teacher, administrator, counselor,
student, safety officer - this film is a must-see.
