Morning Sports Report - Congratulations to all of our swimmers for a
very successful meet yesterday! The JV Girls were dominate, taking
first, second and third in many of their events. JV Boys came together
for a win that was not expected with 3 swimmers missing and one who was
swimming sick. The Varsity Girls fought hard against a faster O'Dowd
squad and were only 16 points from a win. This a major improvement over
last year's 58 point loss. And the Varsity Boys came away with a solid
30 point win. Last year we won by a mere 2 points. The improvement of
this group of swimmers has been noticed by the coaches of our
competitors. Well done, everyone!
In today's sports lineup, Arroyo High School comes to Berkeley High to
play our girls JV softball and boys varsity volleyball teams, and our
boys tennis team competes against Castro Valley at King Middle School.
Away games today include badminton, boys golf and girls varsity softball.
Tomorrow our girls lacrosse, JV baseball and JV softball teams play at home.
In response to several inquiries,*_cheer tryouts_* have not yet been
scheduled. They will take place probably towards the end of April. When
the dates are set we will announce on student announcements, the
bulletin as well as the etree. Best to be prepared with a completed
Athletic Packet. We will announce the dates and times the Athletic
Director will clear packets for Cheer. Packets are available outside of
the Athletic Director's office (room J-207)or online.

*Day of Silence - on Friday, March 31*
The Chicano Latino United Voices student club is leading an effort to
have a Day of Silence tomorrow, Friday, March 31, which is also César
Chavez Day. Cesar Chavez is best known for his efforts to gain better
working conditions for the thousands of workers who labored on farms for
low wages and under severe conditions. Chavez and his United Farm
Workers union battled California grape growers by holding nonviolent
protests.
Tomorrow you can honor immigrants who have been oppressed and silenced.
You can let them know that they are supported and that we are in
solidarity with them. If you’ve ever asked yourself how you can be an
ally to undocumented students, now is the time. Go to room H207 today to
pick up a necklace that explains why you are participating in the day of
silence. You can also wear all black attire. CLUV invites you to stand
with undocumented immigrants.

*No Morning Announcements on March 31*
To honor the Day of Silence, we will not read morning announcements on
Friday, March 31. We invite students and staff to check the PowerSchool
Student Daily Bulletin tomorrow for sports results and other new
information.
