Hello Berkeley High Community!
The Berkeley High ASB Leadership team are working on many events with a main focus on the community meal and service event known as Holiday Meal. Scroll to the bottom to see how you can get involved, but we are looking for 4-6 parents to help out as chefs for each of the different areas of cooking that needs to be done (dessert, turkey/ham, hot salads, bean dishes, pasta, among others). Contact Mr. V if you are interested. Holiday Meal info: http://berkeleyschools.net/leadership/?page_id=214
1. Student Club Meeting on November 2 at 3:45 pm
To all leaders of student clubs, we are hosting a mandatory meeting to review fundraising and club budgets in the M-Gym at 3:45 pm. Please review the leadership website for more information about managing a club. http://berkeleyschools.net/leadership/?page_id=25
2. ASB Speaker Series: Chicano Latino United Voices (CLUV) presented LABELS on 10/27
http://berkeleyschools.net/leadership/?p=740
On October 27, Chicano Latino United Voices presented Labels in partnership with ASB Leadership as part of a yearlong speaker series at BHS. The presentation featured a guest speaker Josue Revelorio, a skit about the stereotypes of "illegal immigrants" (more appropriately called undocumented immigrants), a presentation on the significance and origins of terms, a dance, and a student panel. It was a powerful display of leadership and an opportunity to set the record straight on misconceptions around Chicano Latino students.
3. Academic Achievement Awards is December 15
This awards ceremony is to recognize and celebrate extraordinary students as selected by each learning community for their efforts in one of the following categories: scholar athlete, community leader, advancing leader, a leader at heart, compassionate achiever, and even one award for an acclaimed educator. The awards will be discussed and selected by teachers from each SLC, as well as Special Education, BTA, ISP, Newcomer programs. If you are interested in helping to host the luncheon for the winners that happens afterwards, please contact Mr. V. It takes place in the Little Theater on December 15 during 3rd period.

Zoey H., Chief of Service, and her committee are organizing the Holiday Meal this year to prepare for this amazing event where 300-400 meals are served. There is a preparation and set-up shift on Friday, December 9th while the actual meal will be served on Saturday, December 10th from 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm. Our goal this year is to surpass 15,000 pounds of donated food and funds. Here is how you can help.
We are in the most need of canned goods, prepared food, and donations for the toiletry drive. Any extra Thanksgiving ingredients lying in your cabinets would make a great contribution to the meal. Please consider sending your student to school with a few cans to drop off at the bins located outside of the leadership office in the main building.
