Berkeley High School African American Studies Department/African-Haitian
Dance Program continues the tradition of its spring dance concert by
presenting “The Language of the Soul”.

The evening is sure to delight, surprise and engage the audience with
performance of traditional African, which include Kumba (the
orphan/marginalized child) and Kakilambe (the cleansing), Mexican and
Ethiopian dance forms as well as more contemporary fare of modern, hip hop,
fusion inclusive of Cuban, Brazilian, praise dance, drama and spoken word
of the urban griots/storytellers/rappers. With pieces choreographed by
both teachers and students, this is certainly not a performance to be
missed! Support the arts and Berkeley High School students as they breathe
life into dance both ancient and modern, and bring insights into who they
are and some of the journeys and challenges they have embarked on and been
 confronted with this year.
