*/Mens’ Team Finishes Top of League with 19-2-2 Record/*

After a season which included a 15-game winning streak, the Berkeley 
High School men’s varsity soccer team is looking to continue their 
strong performance as they enter the regional championship this week.

The North Coast Section/Les Schwab Tires (NCS) soccer championship 
begins on *Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 7 pm* when second-seed 
Berkeley High hosts James Logan High School of Union City at BHS Jacket 
Stadium. Sixteen top-ranked high schools participate in the NCS 
tournament which consists of 4 games with the winner of each game 
advancing to the next round.

Coach Andre Hebert is pleased to have the home-field advantage in the 
opening match. “This is one of the best teams I’ve worked with and 
they’ve earned their place at the top of the table.” Still, he’s 
encouraging the players to focus on winning each game rather than 
worrying about the tournament. “This ranking is a great accomplishment 
but it also can inspire opponents to step up their game,” said Hebert.

Berkeley’s strongest asset is a deep bench. “We can play just about any 
combination of talent, rather than rely on one or two star players,” 
said Coach Hebert. “Everyone on our team contributes to our success.”

The NCS tournament rules specify that teams at the top of the table 
begin playing those at the bottom; e.g. 1st seed plays 16th seed, 2nd 
seed plays 15th, etc. In the second round, to be played on Saturday, 
February 20: Winner of 1 vs. 16 plays W of 8 vs. 9, Winner of 4 vs. 13 
plays W of 5 vs. 12, Winner of 2 vs. 15 plays W of vs. 7-10, Winner of 3 
vs. 14 plays W of 6 vs. 11.The final four will play on Wednesday, 
February 24 to secure a spot for the championship game which will be 
played on Saturday, February 27 at Dublin High School.
