*Berkeley High School SPARK Freshmen Assembly*

All Berkeley High ninth graders arrived at school on Wednesday to discover
the campus was reserved for the morning, just for them. Seniors had the
morning off and every classroom in the C and M buildings were full of
juniors and sophomores who were busy taking the PSAT.

First they attended one of two SPARK (Student Power Actualized through
Respect and Kinship) assemblies (Little Theater and Community Theater)
designed to make them feel safe and empowered at Berkeley High. Next they
broke out into small break out groups with 25 freshmen and one teacher,
discussing next steps for Berkeley High around some critical issues.

Working to build a positive school culture is one of the goals this year
and so staff, parents, and students have been planning for weeks to bring
students this informative and empowering presentation, and it really showed
in the assemblies, as students listened intently to every part of the
program. See photos and video of the assembly in the Community Theater.
