Dear Community:

Berkeley High School invites 9th graders and their parents/guardians to the Freshman Welcome Picnic tomorrow, Saturday, August 29 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. 

During the picnic, attendees will be able to meet teachers and administrators, connect with other freshmen and their families, and get to know the students in their learning community. There will be an opening assembly at Jacket Stadium, following by lunch activities by learning community at locations across campus. Hot dogs, chips and water will be served; a vegetarian option will be available. 

We're excited about this event, which is the first time in recent memory that freshmen and their families from across our campus are gathering to meet and greet before the start of school. Many students have already connected with peers across learning communities during this week's Freshman Orientation, and tomorrow represents another great opportunity to connect, this time with BHS faculty and staff.  

We invite freshmen and their families to bring an item to share that serves 5-8 people. Students whose last name begins with A-K should bring a side dish, and students whose last name begins with L-Z should bring a dessert. Please enter the campus through the gates on Milvia Street. 

Volunteer Help: Thanks so much to all of you who have offered to help tomorrow, it would be wonderful to have a few more volunteers.  Please contact our Vice Principal of Academic Choice, Felicia Phillips, at feliciaphillips at berkeley.net if you are available to help with BBQ and other set up needs. She'd welcome your assistance and looks forward to getting to know the Class of 2019 and their families. 


The volunteer assignments tomorrow include working on the grill, preparing the serving areas, serving food and giving directions. We have three 90-minute shifts:
10:00 - 11:30 (prepping the grill, cooking lots of hot dogs, putting bottles of water on ice)
10:30 - 12:00 (setting up the common serving area and replenishing water)
11:00 - 12:30 (serving students and their families hot dogs, chips and water)

Please Ms. Philips know which shift/shifts you're available. When you arrive, please report to the open space just outside the entrance to the bleachers at Jacket Stadium.
