BHS Mountain Bike Team SHOCKS NorCal in first race of season!

 

This past Saturday, BHS in the first race of the season came out and
surprised all.  The team, with only 15 riders, placed very high in all
divisions entered and despite other teams having upwards of 60+ riders.  The
powerful Jacket team anchored by Varsity riders Sandy Floren & Nico
Theunissen and JV rider Adam Goldstein combined with an impressive new
freshman group that placed all of their 5 new riders inside the top 9 in
their race.  Mountain Biking is one of the only co-ed sports at BHS and this
team surprised all at the race this past weekend at Fort Ord, Monterey.

 

Despite the hard rain during early practice, the weather broke into a
beautiful afternoon and allowed the team to continually finish in the top
10.  Despite having one of the smaller teams, BHS shocked all and finished
second in the team category, only falling short by a few points to the home
town Salinas High School team and its 45 riders.

 

Of note the riders that finished in the top 10 in their races:

Varsity Boys  

Sandy Floren 1st place (and fastest time of the day) 

Nico Theunissen 8th (riding sick also!)

 

JV Boys:

Adam Goldstein 3rd

 

JV Girls:

Rene Warren 7th

 

Sophomore Boys:

Stephan O'Brian 6th 

 

Sophomore Girls:

Yuki Nagase 9th

 

Freshman Boys:

Roberto Cribley 3rd

Jared Donahue 6th

Max Barmack 7th

Oliver Cazden 8th

Malcolm Duncan-Graves 9th

Next Race at Granite Bay/outer Sac area, in two weekends

 

We would LOVE to recruit more riders, especially any females that would like
to ride and maybe race with us.
