Announcements are put together in the BHS Main Office. For those of you who
do not hear the announcements where you are during second period, or if you
would like to read them each day, you can find them in the Daily Bulletin
section of Powerschool.

 

Berkeley High School Bulletin, Tuesday February 10

 

EVENTS

1. Opening this Thursday night, The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler's
collection of inspiring stories about woman of all ages and backgrounds. The
show is entirely student produced and student performed. For more info
contact Troy, troygelobter at students.berkeley.net 

 

Performances will be on February 12 & 13, 20 & 21. All shows are at 7:00
p.m. in the Little Theater. Ticket prices: students $5-$8 sliding scale,
adults: $10-$15 sliding scale.

 

2. You got talents?! Well, we want them! It's finally time for Berkeley
High's 2015 Talent Show! Whether you sing, dance, or even hula hoop, this
show is your chance to show off your skills! Sign up now, outside of the
leadership office, auditions begin February 17th. See you there.

 

3. Dance Audition for next year will be on February 26 at 4 pm. The
workshops are at lunch and 3:30 to 5 pm from February 18-25. Sophomores and
Juniors can audition for next year's class. For more questions please see
Ms. Carr in the A building

 

LEADERSHIP

Buy Valentine's Day Grams for your friends and significant other! Candy
Grams will be sold on Tuesday the 10th and Wednesday the 11th on the senior
steps. Lollipops will be 2 for $1. Baked goods will also be available.

 

SPORTS

1. Tryouts started Monday, February 9. Softball Tryouts will be at the
softball field on Milvia and Channing 4:30 bring cleats, tennis  shoes,
glove and athletic apparel. Tryouts will be all week long. More sports
tryout schedules TBA.

 

2. Come out and support our boys basketball team on Senior night against
Bishop O'Dowd. It's the biggest boys game of the season. You don't wanna
miss it!!! Tuesday 2/10 Basketball Boys vs. Bishop O'Dowd @ Berkeley High
School - Donahue Gym Frosh 4:00, JV 5:30, Varsity 7:00

 

3. Wednesday - Girls Soccer Senior night. It's a big game!  Come cheer for
the Yellowjackets and celebrate the Seniors!  Berkeley plays Piedmont
Wednesday 2/11 JV 4:00 and Varsity at 7:00.  Berkeley High School - Jacket
Stadium

 

CLUBS

1. The American Mathematics Competition is on Wednesday, February 25th.
Practice Sessions will be at lunch in room H216 on every Tuesday and
Thursday until the event.

 

2. 3-D Modeling and Printing Club: The "New Industrial Revolution"?! If you
are curious about learning to use Software to Design 3-Dimensional Objects
and then actually printing your design on a 3-D printer come to the 3-D
Modeling and Printing Club on Tuesdays, during lunch in Mr. Angell's room
C310. 

 

3. Join the first Berkeley High School National Honor Society. Do you have a
3.0 GPA or higher? Are you a good citizen? Apply to the National Honor
Society. Learn how to be a leader in the community. Berkeley High School
will open applications for National Honor Society, February 11-17,
Sophomores and Juniors only.  We will not take applications after Feb.17th,
4 p.m. for this year. Students can pick up applications on the 2nd floor of
Building D in front of the Library.  Students must have a 3.0 or higher to
apply, no need to bring transcript we will have a list of all sophomores and
juniors who qualify to apply. Final application approval will be determined
by the NHS Board.

 

4. The Third annual "Boxes, Bags, and Bins of Books" drive organized by
student, Hannah Wells, is happening until February 27th. Donate books to
help libraries at multiple Oakland public schools. Berkeley school libraries
are well funded and stocked, but many Oakland school could use our help. All
books are welcome (Pre-K thru grade 12 preferred). Books in Spanish are also
welcome. Drop books off in the designated bin by the front office. Contact
hannahwells at students.berkeley.net for more info.

 

SENIORS

1. Hear about another scholarship opportunity for students whose first
language was Spanish. Come to the CCC on February 12 at lunch time. Please
bring your lunch right after 3rd period to start the meeting promptly and
learn about the 2015 ELENA CASTANEDA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.

 

2. Lynn Walker, College Success Coordinator of the Berkeley Community Fund,
will be in the CCC on Wednesday, February 11th at lunch time. She will be
here to go over the High Hopes Scholarship. The online application is at
