*SENIORS:*Come and hear about another scholarship opportunity for 
students whose *first language was Spanish*. *Come to the CCC on 
February 12 at lunch *time. Please bring your lunch right after 3rd 
period. The meeting will start promptly.

*2015 ELENA CASTANEDA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:*

The Elena Castañeda Memorial Scholarship was created to honor Berkeley 
educator and social justice advocate Elena Castañeda, who was struck by 
a vehicle while riding her bike to work and passed away on August 9, 
2007. Elena was particularly committed to assisting young people who 
spoke English as their second language in obtaining a quality education. 
As a Chicana, Elena was aware of the benefits and challenges faced by 
bilingual and bicultural students. For this reason, the Elena Castañeda 
Memorial Scholarship will be given annually to a Berkeley High School 
student/s whose first language was Spanish and who has worked to learn 
English and complete the course work necessary to be admitted to 
a*four-year college or university or  two-year community college.*

Special consideration will be given to students who have a commitment to 
serving the community from which they came and to preserving the 
integrity of their language and culture of origin.
