Berkeley High teachers Ross Parker and Robin Vegt were recently lucky enough
to tap into an amazing resource available FOR FREE to further explore
Berkeley's Free Speech Movement: The Berkeley Historical Society. On
December 17th and 18th, nearly 250 of their students were able to meander
through and study their exhibit: "Looking Back: The Free Speech Movement at
Fifty". This was for their History of the Americas course second major unit
of study: Social Movements and Civil Rights. It was also timely considering
the nation's current events, and everyone is encouraged to drop by the
Berkeley Historical Society's History Center located in the Veterans
Building across the park from Berkeley High.

The History Center is open and staffed by volunteer docents most Thursdays,
Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 pm. Call to find out their holiday
schedule: (510) 848-0181.

Look for the complete story on this visit in the A+ News when we return from
Winter Break.
