Compassionate Leaders is an innovative after school program running for the
3rd time at BHS.

Compassionate Leaders is redefining leadership to bring more wisdom into
the world. Our 12 week program teaches engaged mindfulness practice. To
develop student’s ability to use mindfulness in daily life and empower them
to become civic leaders, we guide students through a design process to
create a collaborative social justice project.

Along the way students learn valuable leadership skills such as:
communication, public speaking, project management, and time management.

As an example of a project, last semester, students reached out to Bay Area
non-profit organizations to conduct interviews with eight formerly
incarcerated men. Photos and quotes from the interviews became the
centerpiece of a public photo art campaign viewed by thousands of people
over a 3-month period.
