Hello BHS Community,

On September 16, 2014 we held an all-school assembly for all English 
classes to review behavior expectations, new policies, military waiver 
process, and more information for the Class of 2015. Please review the 
information here with any student who was not present at the assembly.

Included in this message is info about Military Waivers, JAMRS forms, 
Attendance policies, Behavior expectations, Activity & Club information, 
as well as dates and details for members of the Class of 2015.

Students who were absent on 9/16, should pick up JAMRS and/or Military 
Waiver forms at the front office.

Dean of Attendance

Annual Attendance Rates from 2013-14.

  * 9^th Grade: 95.17%
  * 10^th Grade: 95.42%
  * 11^th Grade: 94.40%
  * 12^th Grade: 93.53%

Students have 5 days to clear an absence:*
1. Call  2. Email  3. Send a written note
4. Walk-in: parents only

*Students who have 30+ unverified absences *
1. Sat. school   2. Work permit blocked
3. No school dances
4. Cannot participate in sports

_This next section was presented by Ardarius McDonald_
Dean of Students

  * Only use cell phones before school, at lunch, and after school.
  * Below a 2.0 GPA for two quarters makes you academically ineligible
    for sports.
  * Students must have a hall pass to travel in the hallways during
    class time.
  * If you see something, say something. Use incident reports to get
    help from adults on campus.
  * Respect yourself, others, the belongings of others and your environment.


What is sexual harassment?

  * Unwanted staring, flirtations, or propositions.
  * Unwelcome sexual comments, descriptions, threats, or verbal abuse.
  * Graphic comments about an individual's body.
  * Unwanted sexual jokes, stories, pictures or gestures.
  * Spreading sexual rumors.
  * Blocking someone's movement in a sexual way.
  * Touching an individual's body or clothes in a sexual way.
  * Unwelcome remarks about an individual's sexual orientation.

  Consequences of sexual harassment

  * If You Sexually Harass Someone:

  * You will receive ...
      o Three to five days of suspension.
      o A referral to the police for investigation.
      o If it's a serious case or not the first time, you could be put
        up for expulsion.

Resources on campus for targets of sexual harassment

If Someone Sexually Harasses You, Or If You See it Happen to Someone 
Else, REPORT IT!

Talk to ...
your teacher,
your counselor,
any administrator,
or go to OCI.

We have a new school resource officer for the fall semester, Officer 
Matt McGee.

JAMRS forms

  * "Joint Advertising Market Research Studies"
  * The JAMRS database is funded by the Department of Defense with the
    goal of maximizing recruitment efforts.
  * Students "opting out" will have their file put into a "suppression
    file" and should not be contacted by the DOD.
  * Students UNDER the age of 15 and a HALF need a parent signature.

Military waiver Form

  * By law the school is obligated to give the names, home addresses,
    and phone numbers of juniors and seniors to the US military.
  * If you DO NOT want to be contacted by the US military you must sign
    this form.  Drop your form at the door when you leave or at the
    front office by Friday.
  * If you DO want to be contacted, do nothing.
  *
