We are so grateful for all of your support last year as we took on our
ambitious Constructed Response effort to get kids reading more informational
texts and writing expository essays.
Again this fall, during the first weeks of school, English teachers across
the school will target writing instruction along with strategies for close
reading. In September over 1,800 freshman and sophomores will read articles
and write argumentative essays. Subsequently, ALL BHS teachers will again
score student essays and talk about student work. All of these efforts have
contributed to a sense of collaboration around making sure that we provide
academic rigor to all of our students. We will do a total of four writing
tasks (Constructed Response) throughout the school year.
Right now, we're approaching the English Language Arts Pre-Assessment (also
a Constructed Response) in our English classes.
We'll need volunteers this Thursday, August 28th to organize the materials
for this effort. Anytime between 9:30 and 11:30 am or 12:30 to 3:30 pm.
Please contact me at tamarafriedman at berkeley.net if you are able to help.
