On Tuesday, Berkeley High School Green Academy students held their final
presentation for Y-PLAN, a program of Cal Berkeley's Center for Cities &
Schools. Students in Ms. Dagny Dingman's Composition and Ms. Kate
Trimlett's Eco Literacy, 4^th and 5^th period classes worked together in
teams to learn about the new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), and
focusing on priority areas, make recommendations on how they feel the
District should spend the LCFF money to close the
achievement/opportunity gap in BUSD.
Each team created a display with their presentations, and presented
directly to distinguished panelists, parents and educators who moved
from one display to the next in the District's spacious new Board Room
located at the West Campus. The exhibitions were followed by formal
presentations of the proposals. Each of the students presenting
represented one of the teams. Next the panelists gave feedback and asked
questions before the floor was opened to questions from the parents.
Panelist and School Board Director Julie Sinai applauded the student's
efforts and encouraged them to attend the final LCAPP/LCFF Community
Forum on Wednesday night to share their proposals and include the
student voice.
