*ADMINISTRATION*

1. PE Waivers
Pick up your Spring PE Waivers at Attendance Office. The first portion 
of the waiver process is due back to the attendance office no later than 
February 7, 2014. NO exceptions will be made for missed deadlines. If 
you have any questions please email pewaivers at berkeley.net 
<mailto:pewaivers at berkeley.net> or stop by the Attendance Office.

2. Free and Reduced Lunch
Students please remember to turn in your free/reduced lunch applications 
to your 2nd period teacher. We have a great opportunity to get a lot 
more money for Berkeley High, but we need applications from as many 
students as possible. We are asking ALL families to fill out a form 
regardless of your income.


/Second period teachers /- these forms are private. Please put them 
directly into an envelope and take them directly to the Attendance 
Office yourselves. Do not send them with a student.

3. CAHSEE
CAHSEE is a requirement for graduation and all sophomores are required 
to take it tomorrow (2/4) and Wednesday (2/5). All sophomores need to be 
at Berkeley High by 7:30 am on both days. Students whose last name 
starts with A-L go to the Donahue Gym, last name M-Z must are in the 
Jacket Gym. Seniors who need to take the exam should have been notified 
by their counselors. There will be no announcements for the next two 
days due to testing.

4. Saturday School
Saturday School is scheduled for February 8th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. 
Students interested in attending Saturday School must sign up in the 
Attendance Office before school, during lunch or after school. The first 
30 students to sign up will be selected to attend Saturday School.

SPORTS*

1. Track & Field Tryouts
Anyone interested in joining the BHS Track & Field team should come to 
an informational meeting on Tuesday, February 4th at 4:45pm at the 
bleachers on the west side of the Track. Everyone is welcome, no 
experience necessary.

2. Tryouts
If you are interested in trying out for a Spring Sport, Athletic Packets 
must be on file with Athletic Director by Friday, February 7th. Specific 
information regarding dates and sports will be announced at a later date.

*EVENTS*

1. Screenagers
Do you like film? Are you free Saturday, February 8th? Come to 
Screenagers, the largesft youth film festival in the Bay Area! The films 
will be screened at the Pacific Film Archive (2575 Bancroft Way). 
Admission is $5.50, show starts at 3.

2. Chinese New Year
Happy Chinese New Year! Berkeley High's Mandarin program is pleased to 
be hosting a Chinese culture fair on February 7th from 8:45 to 11:30. 
There will be awesome activities, delicious food, and it's all free! 
Please come with your class and get ready for a great time.

*COLLEGE CAREER CENTER*

1. College Career
Berkeley City College will be in the College and Career Center to 
present a new opportunity for Independent Study and Berkeley High 
incoming junior and senior students to attend BCC part time next year. 
Students who commit to the Persist to College program, will take up to 
two classes per semester and earn college and high school credit. This 
year's 10th and 11th graders who are interested in this program should 
come to the College Career Center Friday, Feb. 7th, during lunch.


2. Free SAT Prep for Juniors: The College Career Center is hosting Free 
SAT prep courses on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:40 to 5:30. 
Space is limited. Applications are currently available in the College 
Career Center. All interested students must complete an application and 
submit it to Mr. Barton or Ms. Price by this Thursday. Classes begin on 
February 10th.

CLUBS*

1. Meditation
A warm hello from the BHS Meditation Community. They invite you to meet 
up to gain a better understanding of what meditation is, and what it 
isn't. Staff and students compose the community, in a mutual effort to 
seek insight into reality, bring clarity to our hectic scattered minds, 
and try and relax a little bit in this hectic world. We meet every 
Monday at lunch in room H106.

2. Mathematics Competition
The American Mathematics Competition is on Wednesday, February 19th. 
Practice are at lunch in H216 on February 4th, 6th, 11th, 13th, and 18th.
