PLEASE do not reply to this email, contact Janet Huseby,
janethuseby at berkeley.net

On Thursday, March 7 all BHS students will attend a special assembly
featuring Dr. Victor Rios, a Berkeley High School alum who teaches at UC
Santa Barbara and is the author of Punished: Policing the lives of Black and
Latino Boys. The assembly will also recognize members of the Berkeley
community who have worked to eliminate violence and gun violence in
particular in Berkeley, on campus, and in the larger community. The
assembly will acknowledge the unique problems faced by citizens of this city
dealing with the issue.

The students will attend the assembly in two groups during a special double
2nd Period. We will need as many volunteer ushers as we can get for this
assembly. Usher's primary duty will be to escort students and staff to
seats in the Community Theatre. They will escort some 1500 students into
the theatre during each period. They will be supported by BHS Safety
Officers in this task. We would like ushers to stay and observe the
assembly as well.

Ushers can serve for one or both assemblies. Here's the special Period 2
schedule:

                             Period 2A: 9:14 - 10:24

                             Period 2B: 10:30 - 11:40

Ushers should arrive one half hour in advance of each assembly. If you can
help please let Janet Huseby know at janethuseby at berkeley.net
