*New to the bulletin today

ADMINISTRATION

1. If you have 30 or more unverified period absences you will be restricted from attending Junior dinner or Senior prom.  You can attend Saturday School to clear up some hours and be eligible to attend those events.  The next Saturday School will be on January 19.  Students with 30+ unverified absences are invited to come to the Attendance Office to sign up for Saturday School.

2. PE Waivers for Fall semester are due tomorrow!  PE Waivers for Spring Semester will be handed out this week only. There will be an optional Q and A meeting on Friday, January 18th at 3:45pm in the Little Theater.  This meeting is mandatory for any students participating in the YMCA program, but optional for others.
 
3. PSAT Results: PSAT score reports have arrived and are ready for distribution. Students can retrieve your score reports from the College/Career center (D221) during lunch or after school from 3:30-4:00 pm.  Students must bring your school ID or another form of identification, and you may only pick up your personal score report.
 
 
LEADERSHIP
 
1. Come purchase your tickets to the Junior Dinner at lunch in the leadership office. Tickets are only $20 for the week of Jan. 14th – Jan. 18th, then will be sold for $25 after this first week. This event is a great opportunity to dress up nice. Dance along to old school songs, indulge in on-site catering by CREAM, and have access to a delicious array of home cooked foods.

*2. Hey come sign up to donate blood on the 30th at lunch Wednesday- Friday at the senior steps.  If you are 16 and thinking of donating, please come pick up a parental consent form or download from online at red crossblood.org.  We can all save lives, the decision is yours.

*3. Hey students, Do you appreciate your teachers or any staff members?  Don’t know how to tell them?  This is what you can do….tweet your favorite teachers name and a positive message with the hashtag#BHSstaff13.  We will show your messages at our staff appreciation next week .

4.  Applications have opened for leadership positions for next year.  Grab one now through March 1st in the leadership office!
 
5. Looking for Community Service Opportunities? There is a complete list of volunteer opportunities available in the College career center and on the Berkeley High website. CLUBS

*1. Come to C217 on Thursday at lunch for the first Youth Against Guns meeting!  Youth Against Guns is a non-profit, started by one of our very own students created to educate high schoolers across the country about gun control.  Our short term goal is to go up to Sacramento and speak with the Assembly.  No experience necessary.

2.  Apply to be a Jacket Columnist!  Columnists can write for the opinion, features, entertainment, or sports sections.  Applications are available online at www.bhsjacket.com and in C400, and are due on January 18. 
 
3. The last CSF (California Scholarship Federation) meeting for the first semester will be FRIDAY, January 18th at lunch in the College Career Center! Remember, you must have attended at least 3 of these for membership for the 1st semester. See you there!


SPORTS
 
1. This Wednesday January 16th during lunch come check out the FROSH Women's soccer players at the senior steps and support their program by purchasing some sweet baked goods. We will have many treats to meet your cravings.

*2.  It’s almost Badminton Season.  For students who are interested in trying out for BHS Badminton team there will be a mandatory interest meeting next Friday, January 25, at 1:00 pm in the Food Court.  Contact Skye VanValkenburgh at skyemvan at yahoo.com with any questions or concerns.

3. Girls Lacrosse Team - Parent Meeting with Coaches. Wednesday, February 13th at 7:00 pm in the Parent Resource Center – D224.
 
4. Attention Swimmers and Divers: There will be a meeting at lunchtime on Wednesday, January 16, at the swimming pool bleachers.  Please plan to attend.

EVENTS / PERFORMANCES

1. Berkeley High School Presents: Dance Production 2013 
Friday & Saturday, January 18 & 19, 7:00pm (box office opens at 6)    Pay what you can on Friday, January 18 (no one turned away)  $12 general, $5 student/senior.  Florence Schwimley Little Theater on Allston.

2. Dante Ryan and David Marcus, members of the Freshman class and their band, The Newcomers, will be having a gig on Friday, February 8th at Slims, a club in San Francisco from 8-11pm. Tickets are $13.  Come to hear and support local music. More info can be found on the Newcomers Facebook page or on
the Slims website.
