Thurs. Dec. 20th 7pm-AFRICAN AMERICAN DANCE CONCERT:

"MANY FACES Part II"  *  Berkeley Community Theater

(at 1980 Allston Way on the BHS campus).

 

Come look through dance at transitions occurring in the lives of our young
people - their challenges, joys and successes. See the many faces and
spectacular dancing of BHS students thru AFRICAN, HAITIAN, MODERN, FUSION,
HIP HOP, AZTEC, PERSIAN & ETHIOPIAN dance. Student performers include Ms.
Washington's African Haitian dance classes; Ms. Carr's Modern Dance
students; & Ms. Benjamin's African/Fusion dance class.

 

The African American Studies Department is excited to have special guest
artists from the Diamano Coura West African Dance Company;  the Young,
Gifted and Black spoken word group; and  the Cuatli Mitotiana Mexica Aztec
Dancers. Get seated early and hear BHS's Jazz Band.

This dance concert showcases the influence of African dance which is evident
throughout the African Diaspora and beyond. African dance is basic, vital
and complete. It varies from the slowest and stateliest of court dances to
such rapid dances that the eyes cannot hope to register all that is
happening.
