WHY: Helping kids aim at college is cool. Helping Berkeley High put on a
nationally attended admissions event gets kids info on colleges (and
scholarships) they might never otherwise learn about
25-30 volunteers will plan, research, publicize, decorate, setup entry
scanner stations, setup materials, act as liaison to BHS administration,
create Admissions guests break area, cafe, luncheon and special BHS identity
fun item. There are early jobs, day of event jobs and in between. Case
Studies event is a program for parents and students to see how Admissions
officers (the actual ones we've invited to the fair) evaluate real
applications (with changed names from other regions) here on campus, in our
Berkeley High classrooms. If any of you have experienced this, you know why
it is a great experience for Juniors.
40 colleges and Universities attended our fair April 2012, including 2
overseas colleges. Here's a sampling to show the range and reach both
geographic and program type:
Cornish College of Arts, Univ of British Columbia, Dartmouth, San Jose
State, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, Middlebury, SF State, Hamilton College,
Stanford University, Harvey Mudd, Reed College, Washington Univ, St. Louis,
Vassar, Wellesley, U of Oregon, Smith College, Hamilton College, Oberlin,
