School Board Statement on Superintendent/Declaración de la Mesa
Directiva sobre del Superintendente

Good morning,

Thank you to everyone who has emailed me regarding the search for a new
superintendent.  This is a quick response sent to everyone, and I will be
responding individually to each email I received.

At our meeting last week on September 19, the School Board released the
following statement regarding the search for a new superintendent.  For
those of you who have not read it, I wanted to pass it along.  More
information regarding the search will be forthcoming.

To the members of our community, to the teachers and staff of our school
district, and most importantly to our students:

     As many of you may have already heard, Dr. Edmond Heatley has notified
the District that he has withdrawn his candidacy to be the next
Superintendent of the Berkeley Unified School District and is no longer
under consideration.  We agree with and respect Dr. Heatley’s conclusion
that despite his experience, skills, and achievements as an educator,
Berkeley is not the right fit and we support his decision to withdraw.

     The Board acknowledges how difficult this time has been for everyone
involved.  We are and will continue to be committed to serving and
supporting all our children and their families.  When we re-initiate the
search after winter break, the Board is committed to doing so in a manner
that reflects our community’s request for greater inclusivity and
transparency.

     The Board has full confidence that Dr. Neil Smith and Ms. Javetta
Cleveland, acting as Interim Co-Superintendents, are a great team to
continue our academic progress until the superintendent search has been
completed.  Under their leadership, we will continue the significant
progress the District has made on key student achievement issues and the
2020 vision.

     We look forward to working with everyone in our District and the wider
community as we go forward and in our on-going efforts in advancing academic
success for all our students.

Gracias a todos los que me han enviado por correo electrónico en cuanto a la
búsqueda de un nuevo superintendente.  Esta es una respuesta rápida enviado
a todos, y voy a responder individualmente a cada correo electrónico que he
recibido.

En nuestra reunión de la semana pasada el 19 de septiembre, la Mesa
Directiva pública la siguiente declaración con respecto a la búsqueda de un
nuevo superintendente.  Para aquellos de ustedes que no lo han leído, quería
hacerle saber al respecto.  Más información sobre la búsqueda estará
disponible pronto.

     Para los miembros de nuestra comunidad, para los maestros(as) y el
personal docente de nuestro distrito escolar, y más importante para nuestros
estudiantes:

     Como muchos de ustedes probablemente ya habrán escuchado, el Dr. Edmond
Heatly ha notificado al Distrito que ha retirado su candidatura para ser el
próximo Superintendente del Distrito Escolar de Berkeley, por lo tanto ya no
está bajo consideración. Estamos de acuerdo y respetamos la conclusión del
Dr. Heatley de que a pesar de su experiencia, destrezas, y logros como
educador, Berkeley no es el lugar apropiado y respaldamos su decisión de
retirarse.

     La Mesa Directiva reconoce lo difícil que esta situación ha sido para
todos los que están involucrados. Nosotros estamos y continuaremos estando
comprometidos a servir y a respaldar a todos nuestros niños(as) y sus
familias, Después delas vacaciones de invierno cuando iniciemos nuevamente
la búsqueda, la Mesa Directiva está comprometida a hacerlo de manera que
refleje los requisitos de nuestra comunidad con más inclusión y
transparencia.

     La Mesa Directiva tiene toda su confianza en que el Dr. Neil Smith y la
Sra. Javetta Cleveland, sirviendo actualmente como Co-Superintendentes
Interinos, son un gran equipo para continuar con nuestro progreso académico
hasta que la búsqueda por el superintendente sea completada. Bajo su
liderazgo, continuaremos el significante progreso que el Distrito ha logrado
en los asuntos del logro académico y en la Visión 2020.

     Esperamos con interés el trabajar con cada persona en nuestro Distrito
y con la comunidad en general a medida que avanzamos en nuestros continuos
esfuerzos hacia el éxito académico de todos nuestros estudiantes.
