Final Budget Update/Actualización Final sobre el Presupuesto

Good morning,

The District’s budget process will soon come to a close.  Initially, BUSD’s projected budget deficit was estimated at $3 million, but the revised estimate puts the projected deficit at $1.6 million.  This is great news!  (The difference is due to an increase in attendance at all of our schools.  Most funding for schools is based on attendance rather than enrollment.  Thank you to all the parents and guardians, teachers and staff who have made attendance a priority for this year.  Not only is going to class extremely important for student learning, but it helps the District financially as well.)

At the same time, we still need to cut our budget by $1.6 million.  Currently, the proposal includes, among other things, a reduction in staff at BHS due to the expected decline in enrollment as well as a reduction of $100,000 to summer school.  The increases in fees for older adult classes have mostly been eliminated.  A final decision on the budget will likely be made on June 20.

The Board and the District want to hear from you.  Here are a number of ways to express your opinions:

·         Attend a School Board Meeting: They start at 7:30pm on June 6 and June 20 at 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, in the Board Room.

·         Email the Board: boardofed at berkeley.net

·         Call the Board: 510-644-6550

El presupuesto del Distrito pronto será determinada.  Al principio, el déficit del presupuesto prevé que sea $3 millones, pero la estimación revisada pone el déficit proyectado en $1,6 millones.  ¡Esta es noticia gran!  (La diferencia se debe a un aumento en la asistencia a todas nuestras escuelas.  La mayoría de los financiamiento de las escuelas se basa en la asistencia en lugar de inscripción.  Gracias a todos los padres y guardianes, maestros y personal que han priorizado la asistencia para este año.
