Seeking reading volunteers for WordPower

Beginning on April 25, Rosa Parks Elementary is holding an evening literacy support program for kindergarten through 2nd grade students. We’re wondering if YOU would like to come volunteer!

Volunteers will be working in pairs with small groups of students. You'll read a story outloud to the students, using questions and comprehension activities along the way to engage the story. Afterward, volunteers help the kids with a related art project.

Here are more details:
When: Wednesdays from 6:15-7:45pm

Dates: April 25 – June 6

Training: Tuesday, April 17 from 6:30-7:30. If you can't make that time, we'll find a separate time to meet with you.

Place: Rosa Parks Elementary, 920 Allston Way in Berkeley

Qualifications: High school students or adults comfortable working with kids in reading

Rewards: Getting to see kids gain strength and confidence in reading; getting to know kids from our community; and a yummy thank-you dinner held for you after the program!

Please contact me if you'd like to hear more! Thank you so much for considering this fun (and important) volunteer opportunity.
