1. Math Placement for New-to-BUSD students

The link for New-to-BUSD math teacher placement recommendations is up. It
may be found at: <https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9thGradePlacement>
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9thGradePlacement .

As we do not know how to contact incoming students' current math teachers,
we are asking parents and guardians to please forward this link to their
child's current teacher. The short online questionnaire must be filled out
by March 31.

In addition to a teacher recommendation, math placement will be decided by a
math test. New-to- BUSD students must come to the Berkeley High School
Library on April 10, April 18, or May 9 at 3 p.m. The general test is
approximately one hour long. The honors math test, which will follow the
standard test, is an additional 45 minutes. The Algebra content covered by
the placement test is the California content standards for Algebra 1 which
can be found online at: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sr/documents/rtqalg1.pdf

2. Students currently enrolled at King, Willard, or Longfellow do not have
to ask their teachers to submit a recommendation. Teachers will do so
automatically. Current BUSD students also do not have to take the standard
math test after school-that will happen in class. However, if a current
BUSD student wants to take Honors math, they must take the Honors Math
Placement test after school. The Longfellow test is scheduled for April 12;
Willard on April 16; and King on April 17.

3. New-to-BUSD course signups. New-to-BUSD students who have completed the
enrollment and registration process by Feb. 27 have two more evenings to
sign up for course and lottery requests in the BHS Library, starting at 6
p.m. March 12 and March 19. Please note - students should come with their
parents.
