ADMINISTRATION
1. One in ten girls admits to having experienced physical violence in a
dating relationship in the past year. February is teen dating violence
prevention and awareness month. Talk with a teacher, counselor, family
member, or health center staff if you or someone you know needs support.
Get help, take action, stop the violence.
2. BSEP Applications for 2012-2013 school year are now available. You can
pick up a printed copy or get one electronically.
3. Students with 2 or more overdue books will not be able to purchase
tickets to the Winter Ball. Please check under your bed and get those books
back to the textbook room! Check with Ms. Reed (Mon. thru Thurs.) if you
have any questions. If you have a government book from last semester, PLEASE
turn it in to the bookroom ASAP. Other students are waiting for them. Thank
you.
4. Winter Ball tickets are on SALE NOW! Only $30 this week. Come to the
Leadership Office at lunch or after school to buy your tickets. YEAH, it's
the Mardi Gras Ball - get your tix today and tell your friends.
5. Thursday, February 23rd is Day of Silence for Human Trafficking
Awareness. Silence for people all over the world who are forced into sex
slavery. Be silent for those who can't speak out!
*6. Yearbooks are going fast. Only 100 books left. Buy them in C327 during
7th period, or at Balfour.com. Books are $80 dollars, or 65 for free and
reduced lunch.
*7. Are you a student that is always correcting spelling or who is a
stickler when it comes to grammar? Then you should apply to be a Copy Editor
for the Berkeley High Jacket for the 2012-2013 school year! Please e-mail

Please turn in a hard copy of the application to room C400 by 4:30pm on
March 9th, 2012! Being an editor on the Jacket requires easy access to
e-mail so please have the students request an application ONLY! This shows
interest and dedication in becoming a Copy Editor!
SENIORS
1. Attention all seniors who plan on applying to community college: Our
College and Career center is hosting workshops Wednesday and Thursday for
you to come complete an application to your college, receive financial aid
information, discuss mandatory assessment test opportunities and more. Come
sign up in the College and Career Center!
2. If you applied to any private colleges or universities, be sure to check
your school's financial aid website for the specific requirements and due
dates. Remember that colleges have different due dates for financial aid
materials. If you would like assistance with the FAFSA or CSS/PROFILE, come
see Ms. Price or Mr. Barton in the College and Career Center after school or
during lunch.
JUNIORS
1. PTPS will also be offering a free ACT prep course at Berkeley High
School. This course is designated for BHS juniors, and sessions began on
Monday, Feb. 13, in room D219. The course will meet every Monday and
Wednesday, from 3:35 to 5:30pm, for a total of 10 weeks. Students can sign
up for this class in the College and Career Center with Ms. Price or Mr.
Barton - limited space is available.
SPORTS
1.The Berkeley High School Cheerleading Squad will hold their First Annual
Crab Feed Fundraiser! Saturday, February 18, 2012, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
at Berkeley High School Cafe 1980 Allston Way Berkeley CA . Donation is $45
per person. You can buy your ticket from any B.H.S. Cheerleader or B.H.S.
Cheer Coach. Come and enjoy Hot/Cold Fresh Cracked Crab, Pasta, Salad and
Garlic Bread, Live entertainment, Raffles, Door Prizes and more. Tickets go
on sale TODAY!! Please come and support our teams in this fundraising event
to attend the USA Spirit Nationals. If you are interested in renting a
vendor's booth, at this great event, please contact Ms. Sandra McGill, for
details by calling 510-919-6771. GO YELLOWJACKETS!
*2. Men's Lacrosse: Head Coach, Chris May is calling all players to
practices! All Players will begin team practices and be given more
information this upcoming week! ALL PLAYERS MUST REGISTER Feb. 14th at BHS
FOOD COURT from 6-8pm
ALL JV PLAYERS who attended tryouts - Please attend practices starting
Monday at Derby Field at 3:45pm until dark. PRACTICES WILL CONTINUE at
Derby Field Monday through Friday, 3:45pm until dark (until the BHS Soccer
Team's season is finished). We will keep you posted on practice time changes
soon.
EVENTS
*1. The 2012 Berkeley High School vagina Monologues- The award-winning
piece, both humorous and inspiring, is part of V-day, a movement dedicated
to ending violence against women and girls worldwide. 100% of the proceeds
will go to women's charities. All performances are at 7:00pm in the Little
Theater on February 16, and !7th. Buy tickets at brownpapertickets.com or
at the door.
SUMMER
1.Apply to the iCLEM internship! The Introductory College Level Experience
In Microbiology is a one in a lifetime opportunity for you to do research at
one of the best labs in the nation. You will be paid $2000 upon completion
of the internships and get life changing experience with lab work. See

*2. Each year MTC sponsors a High School Internship Program. The purpose of
the program is to introduce high school students (in the 10th, 11th or 12th
grade) to career opportunities in the field of transportation, to show them
how public transportation agencies play an overall part in the community,
county, and regional transportation operations, and to provide MTC's
transportation partners (such as traffic engineers at city and county public
works departments or planners at transit agencies) with assistance.
The program was conceived of by MTC's Minority Citizens Advisory Committee
to encourage young people who might not otherwise consider a career in
transportation to do so. Students of all races and ethnic backgrounds are
strongly encouraged to apply.
