STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

February 6, 2012

ADMINISTRATION

 

*1. BSEP meeting tonight, Monday, February 6, at 4:30 pm All members be
present. 

 

*2. CAHSEE - Students, you must bring your Student ID.  The California High
School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) will be Tuesday, Feb. 7 and Wednesday, Feb. 8.
This is a requirement for graduation and all sophomores are required to take
the exam on both days.  The first day's test is English and the second day
is Math.  Students who do not pass the exam will have other opportunities to
retake the portion that they do not pass during their junior or senior year.
If your last name begins with the letter "A-L," report to the Donahue Gym.
If your last name begins with the letters "M-Z," report to the Jacket Gym.
All 10th graders should report to Berkeley High by 7:30 am on both days. As
students finish the exam they will return to their regularly scheduled
classes.

 

*3. BART Tickets for February are here.  Please pick up your tickets in Room
D224 at lunchtime only!

 

4. The make-up MANDATORY meeting for SPRING Waivers will take place on
Thursday, Feb. 9  from 4 to 4:30 in the BHS Little Theater.  Waiver forms
will only be passed out at the meetings.  YMCA orientation will be
immediately after.

 

5. One in ten girls admits to having experienced physical violence in a
dating relationship in the past year.  February is teen dating violence
prevention and awareness month.  Talk with a teacher, counselor, family
member, or health center staff if you or someone you know needs support.
Get help, take action, stop the violence.

 

6. BSEP Applications for 2012-2013 school year are now available.  You can
pick up a printed copy or get one electronically.

 

7. Students with 2 or more overdue books will not be able to purchase
tickets to the Winter Ball.  Please check under your bed and get those books
back to the textbook room!  Check with Ms. Reed (Mon. thru Thurs.) if you
have any questions.

 

8. Seeking Mathworks Coordinator. If you are a sophomore or junior looking
for a leadership position for next year, have a good  organizational sense,
like working with middle school students and are willing to work on Tuesdays
from 3:50-5pm contact Karen Meryash at kmeryash at gmail.com or call

*9.  Winter Ball tickets are on SALE NOW!  Only $30 this week.  Come to the
Leadership Office at lunch or after school to buy your tickets. YEAH, it's
the Mardi Gras Ball - get your tix today and tell your friends.

 

10. DONATIONS- please donate used or new winter clothing for kids in need in
your community.  Coats, gloves, hats, scarves, sweaters, socks or mittens.
The donation bin is at the main doors of the school.

 

CLUBS

 

*1. Interested in a health career?  Then come join HOSA.  It's a great way
to get a jump start towards your future.  It will look great on College
Applications and resumes!  Meetings are every Thursday at 3:40 pm in room
G203.  Hope to see you there!

 

2. Got someone special in mind for Valentine's?  Buy them candygrams!  Build
On will be selling candygrams in the C-Building gallery all next week at
lunch.  All proceeds will support construction of schools in developing
countries.

 

SENIORS

 

*1. If you applied to any private colleges or universities, be sure to check
your school's financial aid website for the specific requirements and due
dates.  Remember that colleges have different due dates for financial aid
materials.  If you would like assistance with the FAFSA or CSS/PROFILE, come
see Ms. Price or Mr. Barton in the College and Career Center after school or
during lunch.

 

SPORTS

 

*1. Meeting for New Rowers:  February 6th at 4pm, BHS Track (near the
containers)    Open to girls and boys, grades 9-12. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.
Come and learn about our spring race season, meet the coaches, and varsity

2. BHS Men's Golf Team tryouts start on Monday, February 6th through
Thursday, February 9th.   Please bring your clubs and meet at Tilden Park
Golf course at 4pm. For questions please contact Coach Scales: Home:

pool, please contact Kimmi at kimmikataria at gmail.com 

 

3. Softball conditioning has begun - 3:45pm on the track, Tue/Thur/Fri.
Tryouts begin Feb.6 at Grove Park for those girls who have complete athletic
packets.

 

4. The following team sports compete during the spring season and begin on
Monday, February 6, 2012:

 Badminton, Baseball, Crew (boys and girls), Golf (boys), Lacrosse (boys and
girls), Softball, Swimming (boys and girls), Tennis (boys), Track and Field
(boys and girls), and Volleyball (boys).

Students must have an athletic packet including medical examination.
Athletic packets may be picked up in the athletic office Mon.-Fri. from
3:30-6:00.  Submit completed packets in the athletic office or bring
paperwork to the Athletic Packet Clearing Night on Thursday, February 2
anytime between 5:30-7:00 PM in the BHS Library.

5. The Berkeley High School Cheerleading Squad will hold their First Annual
Crab Feed Fundraiser!  Saturday, February 18, 2012, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
at Berkeley High School Cafe 1980 Allston Way Berkeley CA . Donation is $45
per person.  You can buy your ticket from any B.H.S. Cheerleader or B.H.S.
Cheer Coach.  Come and enjoy Hot/Cold Fresh Cracked Crab, Pasta, Salad and
Garlic Bread, Live entertainment, Raffles, Door Prizes and more.  Tickets go
on sale TODAY!!  Please come and support our teams in this fundraising event
to attend the USA Spirit Nationals.  If you are interested in renting a
vendor's booth, at this great event, please contact Ms. Sandra McGill, for
details by calling 510-919-6771. GO YELLOWJACKETS!
