ADMINISTRATION

1. Hey ALL staff.  Yes, yes ALL staff!  This Friday is the Staff Appreciation Reception at 941 The Alameda in Berkeley.  We hope to see you there.  It's going to be a great time!  Just come on over after you've wrapped up after finals on Friday.  Let's celebrate our victories through this first semester and enjoy ourselves a little bit!"  

2. The After -School Tutorial Center has special hours for tutoring support during BHS finals week!  Drop-in tutorial support is available in all subjects in the the College and Career Center. Today & Thursday we will open from 12:45 - 3:45

4. BSEP Applications for 2012-2013 school year are now available.  You can pick up a printed copy or get one electronically.

5. Students with 2 or more overdue books will not be able to purchase tickets to the Winter Ball.  Please check under your bed and get those books back to the textbook room!  Check with Ms. Reed (Mon. thru Thurs.) if you have any questions.
 
6. Seeking Mathworks Coordinator. If you are a sophomore or junior looking for a leadership position for next year, have a good  organizational sense, like working with middle school students and are willing to work on Tuesdays from 3:50-5pm contact Karen Meryash at kmeryash at gmail.com or call 510-303-3048.

 CLUBS
1. Interested in a health career?  Then come join HOSA.  It’s a great way to get a jump start towards your future.  It will look great on College Applications and resumes!  Meetings are every Thursday at 3:40 pm in room G203.  Hope to see you there!


SPORTS
 
1. Looking for a spring sport? Join Men’s and women’s crew!  Come to G305 for information.
 
2. Softball conditioning begins Jan.17- at 3:45 on the track. We will then condition Tue/Thur/Fri at 3:45. Tryouts begin Feb.6 at Grove Park for those girls who have complete athletic packets.

*3 BHS Men's Golf Team tryouts start on Monday February 6th through Thursday February 9th.   Please bring your clubs and meet at Tilden Park Golf course at 4pm. More information on the etree and athletics web site.

*4. Badminton Update from Coach Skye Van Valkenburgh: The second interest meeting will be held this Thursday, afterschool, on the campus green behind the C-building, directly across from the Donahue Gym.  Come pick up athletic packets, learn when and where tryouts will be held, leave your contact information and meet your new coach.  New and returning players are welcome to attend.  
 
5. The following team sports compete during the spring season and begin on Monday, February 6, 2012:
 
Badminton, Baseball, Crew (boys and girls), Golf (boys), Lacrosse (boys and girls), Softball, Swimming (boys and girls), Tennis (boys), Track and Field (boys and girls), and Volleyball (boys).

Students must have an athletic packet including medical examination.  Athletic packets may be picked up in the athletic office Mon.-Fri. from 3:30-6:00.  Submit completed packets in the athletic office or bring paperwork to the Athletic Packet Clearing Night on Thursday, February 2 anytime between 5:30-7:00 PM in the BHS Library.

* 6. The Berkeley High School Cheerleading Squad will hold their First Annual Crab Feed Fundraiser!  Saturday, February 18, 2012, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Berkeley High School Cafe 1980 Allston Way Berkeley CA . Donation is $45 per person.  You can buy your ticket from any B.H.S. Cheerleader or B.H.S. Cheer Coach.  Come and enjoy Hot/Cold Fresh Cracked Crab, Pasta, Salad and Garlic Bread, Live entertainment, Raffles, Door Prizes and more.  Tickets go on sale TODAY!!  Please come and support our teams in this fundraising event to attend the USA Spirit Nationals.  If you are interested in renting a vendor’s booth, at this great event, please contact Ms. Sandra McGill, for details by calling 510-919-6771. GO YELLOWJACKETS! 

OTHER
The Spring 2012 PLAY session is starting January 25 and enrollment is now open. The Police and Life Academy for Youth (PLAY) provides an introduction to and in-depth look at local criminal justice and law enforcement practices. Starting, Wednesday, January 25 we will spend 11 sessions covering topics include:
Emergency Preparedess/Build-a-kit

Concepts of Criminal Justice Overview by Alameda District Attorney

Individual Accountability and Civil Rights

Basic Weaponless Defense and Color Code of Awareness

As well as workshops on Crime Scene Investigation focusing on fingerprinting, dispatch responsibilities and much more!
