*New to the bulletin today
SPORTS
1. Help Berkeley High’s Athletic Program win $5,000! Go to Honda of Oakland’s facebook page. Find Cal-High Bay Area 2011 in the photo albums, and click “like” on the Berkeley High Yellow Jacket. Contest ends December 31st. The Bay Area school with the most “Likes” will win!
2. The first home game for the Lady Jackets is Wednesday, November 30 at 5:30 for JV and 7:00 for Varsity girls.
*3. The BHS Mountain Bike Racing Club will be holding an all-team
lunchtime meeting for all returning and new riders Wednesday, November
30 in Ms. Kavaler's room, G304. Last chance to sign up before the
season starts. You don't even need your own bike!
CLUBS
1. Tis the weather for hot chocolate and donuts! There will be a hot chocolate and donut sale Wednesday, November 30th at lunch. All proceeds will be donated to the homeless shelter by the Homeless Support Club!
EVENTS
*1. World Aids Day is a worldwide awareness campaign observed December 1st of every year. Help BHS and the world reach this years theme of “getting to zero” by attending BHS World Aids Day event and educating yourself so you too can help get new infections of HIV down to zero. Talk with your English teachers today to attend the event this week!
OTHER
1. Do you like theatre? Do You Like the great outdoors? Then join Move-About Theatre for their third spectacular season of bringing plays to parks and public spaces. This year’s production will be William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Auditions will be held at the Yerba Buena Arts center at 701 Mission Street in San Francisco. Additional auditions will be at Yerba Buena on Saturday, December 3rd & Sunday, December 4th at 1:00pm. All you need to audition is a 2 minute comedic monologue form a classic or modern work that is not “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” You will also be asked to do a cold read. Find Move-About Theatre on Facebook to learn more. Send an email to director at moveabouttheatre.com to schedule your audition.
* 2. Girls Rock After School Program (GRASP)
Who: Girls ages 8-18, all experience levels welcome and we provide all of the instruments!
When: January - March 2012, 4:00pm-6:30pm, one day per week (grouped according to age)
Elementary School: Tuesdays, January 10 - March 13; Showcase on Saturday, March 17th.
Middle School: Wednesdays, January 11 - March 14; Showcase on Saturday, March 17th.
High School: Thursdays, January 12 - March 15; Showcase on Saturday March 17th.
Where: Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts; 1428 Alice St; Oakland CA 94612
Tuition: $0-$325, sliding scale
GRASP OVERVIEW: Students choose which instrument they want to learn: guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, or vocals. They meet once a week for 10 weeks to learn their instrument and collaborate with their band to write an original song. There are also workshops such as self-defense, screen printing, music her story, and more! All bands perform their songs at a showcase finale for family, friends and the general public.
