Teachers and staff: check out will be Friday, June 17th and Monday, June
20th from 8:30 -12:00 and from 1:00 until 3:00pm in Conference Room B.
Students, please remember to turn in elevator keys by Friday, June 17.

 

1. Ready for Finals?  Come to a Final Exam Prep Workshop after school
today from 3:30 - 4:30 in the College Career Center.  We will help you get
organized so you can ace your finals!  See Ms. Mitchell in D222 for more
info.

 

2. Our first AC Commencement is this Saturday in the Community Theater at
2pm.  Stay for the dessert potluck afterwards.  The event is free to all
seniors and their families.  Pick up your sashes for graduation.  A $20
donation is suggested to cover the cost of the sashes.

 

3. Students who are taking the AP Spanish Literature next year please pick
up the summer assignment next week at portable 4 (Ms Bugarini)

 

4. URGENT!!!! All  students must have the Tdap vaccination in order to
start school in the fall.  If your child has not had this shot, make sure
they get one before September 1.  This is a new policy.  If your child has
had a Tdap shot after the age of seven, please bring proof to BHS
immediately to the health center or the front office.  Thanks for your
cooperation.

 

5. Yearbooks are for sale after school in H102B for $80.  They are no
longer for sale online.  Please make checks payable to BHS Yearbook. Books
are going fast! Students with free/reduced lunch will still receive a
discount. 

 

6. Independent Study Is Now Enrolling! Come to a New Student Orientation
on Monday, June 20 at 8:30 am at the Independent Study campus (2701 MLK
Jr. Way, Room 200) to find out more about the BHS Independent Study
Program.  The program is filling up quickly so come to the orientation to
reserve your spot for next school year!  Call (510) 644-8592 if you have
any questions. 

 

 

SENIORS

 

1. Attention Seniors!  Friday, June 10, is Senior textbook drop-off day.
The textbook room will be open on Friday specifically for seniors.  Don't
leave this until the last minute.  All students can turn in their books
any day from 8am - 4pm.  There will be extra drop-off stations available
in the C bldg. and the Community Theater all next week.

 

2. Senior hoodies are here! Please come to the senior steps after school.
Hoodies are $38.  There is a limited amount, so first come first serve!
Hoodies will be sold from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.  

 

3. SENIORS - URGENT ATTENTION! Diplomas will be mailed during the week of
July 11, 2011. You will need to provide your SUMMER MAILING ADDRESS if
different from the one currently on file at Berkeley High School . You
will need to provide the updated address to the Registrar's office at
lunch time and after school (ONLY) until 3:45pm, Monday through Friday
from now until June 10, 2011.  If you do not receive your diploma by the
end of July 2011, you will need to check with the registrar's office (room
D173) in August.

 

 

CLUBS

 

1. During lunch on Friday, the Berkeley Public Library will be running a
button making event in the BHS Library for an end-of-the-year round of
crafts!  Come customize a button with the image or message of your choice.
If you want to make yourself some unique buttons, join us in the school
library at lunch this Friday!

 

EVENTS

 

1. The BHS Jazz Lab Bands, Ensemble and Combos will perform at the final
concert of the semester on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the BHS (Florence
Schwimley) Little Theater beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 (General
Admission); BHS students and staff are free; and other student tickets are
$3.  Lots of snacks and soft drinks will be available for purchase  AND
every concertgoer will receive a FREE vintage BHS Jazz T-shirt (while they
last)!! This will be the last BHS Jazz performance for several Ensemble
seniors.  Let's give them a terrific sendoff! Come enjoy the evening, hear
terrific music, and support all of our talented musicians and BHS Jazz !!

 

2. Please come out and support the BHS Cheer and Dance teams at the 24th
Annual Berkeley Juneteenth Festival, Sunday, June 26, 2011, 10am - 6:00pm.
Stop by our booth and enjoy our fresh picked Cheer Corn on the Cob from
Dwellers Farms, in Brentwood CA., or how about an ice cold beverage.
We're looking forward to seeing you there.

 

3. Don't miss the Berkeley High Concert Chorale in its final concert of
the year on Wednesday night.  The group will be singing music from
animated films -- mainly the Disney features you loved as a kid.  Come
hear your favorite songs from The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The
Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Toy Story and others!  Seven o'clock on Wednesday
in the Little Theater -- free to Berkeley High students and staff.

 

 

SUMMER

 

1. Fairyland Summer Camp in downtown Oakland is seeking outgoing,
responsible teen volunteers for their Counselors-in-Training (CIT)
program.  CITs will assist the Camp Instructors in theater arts, games,
movement and arts & crafts activities.  They will help prepare materials
for the activities, lead camp games, read stories, and help with creating
costumes, and props for a final mini play to be performed each Friday.
This is a great opportunity to acquire experience working with younger
children in the arts.  CITs must commit to a work shift of either 8am-1pm
or noon-6pm each day for a minimum of two (1 week) sessions of camp (they
do not need to be 2 consecutive weeks). Camp is between June 20- August

2. Summer High School Printmaking Intensive at Kala Art Institute,
Berkeley www.Kala.org/CampKala  July 18-29 from 10-4 pm. Students may
enroll in one or both weeks. Tuition assistance is available. Workshops
focus upon four distinct areas and applications of printmaking: drawing
for printmaking, monotypes, bookmaking and experimental printmaking. For

3. Are you looking for summer programs to enroll your teen(s) into? Then
look no further! The YMCA-PG&E Teen Center located at 2111 Martin Luther
King Jr. Way has summer enrichment courses, SAT preparation courses and
outdoor leadership adventures that can help keep your students' mind sharp
over the summer! The YMCA-PG&E Teen Center is offering courses starting
from July 4th through August 12th, so hurry because spaces are filling
fast! For more information about our summer programs and to register your
