COLLEGE/CAREER BULLETIN: Week of June 6, 2011

*New or updated information

SAT WORD OF THE DAY: Indolent - lethargic, lacking energy

SENIORS

1. Parents of Seniors. Don't forget to take a moment to fill out the survey
on the Senior Handbook. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SRF88KP

*2. A big thank you goes out to all the families who donated food and drinks
to the Award Ceremony. We in the College Center appreciate all the support
the Berkeley Community gives to us and our students. THANK YOU!

3. BERKELEY CITY COMMUNITY COLLEGE INFORMATIONAL MEETING - Tuesday, June 24,
at 2:30pm to 3:30pm in the College Career Center for all seniors planning on
attending a community college in the fall. BCC has put together a new
program that offers AAs or certification in three different areas, all of
which have UC/CSU transferable courses. This is a First Year Experience
designed to help students get a good start in college in courses linked
together for optimal scheduling and work flow. Jump-start your college
career and get onto the fast-track to a job or transfer by joining one of
these programs.

4. You can access your AP scores starting July 1 and send them to colleges
using the AP Automated Grade Reporting Service. Students can call (888)
<tel:%28888%29%20308-0013> 308-0013 (toll free in the United States and
Canada) or (609) 771-7366, 24 <tel:%28609%29%20771-7366%2C%2024> hours a
day. You will need their AP numbers to use the service, so please hold on to
your AP Student Packs. ( Keep in mind you not have to send an AP score if
you did not achieve a score of 3 or above).

*5. FINAL TRANSCRIPT

If you haven't turned in your Transcript Request Form to Ms. Mellion in D173
so that we can send an official transcript to the school they will be
attending in the fall, DO SO IMMEDIATELY! All colleges require that
students send them a final transcript confirming their senior year grades.
MANY SCHOOLS WILL RESCIND YOUR ADMISSION IF THEY DO NOT RECEIVE YOUR FINAL
TRANSCRIPT. WHAT WE NEED: a) Write "FINAL TRANSCRIPT" in capital letters
across the top of the form of the Transcript Request Form and fill it out.
If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the request form; b)
Paperclip it to a stamped business size envelope addressed to the college,
with Berkeley High School (1980 Allston Way, Berkeley 94704) as the return
address. c) If you applied to a school which uses the Common Application,
print out the Final Report form and attach it to the outside of the
envelope. Some schools have their own final report form, which you can use
instead. No Final Report form is needed for Cal State or UC campuses.

*6. Are you a senior interested in a career in technology or business? Check
out Year Up at www.yearup.org <http://www.yearup.org/> . This free,
full-time training program offers a weekly stipend and 14 credits from City
College of San Francisco. It combines six months of on-the-job training at
local corporations with six months of classroom training. Applications and
more information are also available in the College/Career Center.
