ADMINISTRATION
1. URGENT!!!! All students must have the Tdap vaccination in order to start
school in the fall. If your child has not had this shot, make sure they get
one before September 1st. This is a new policy. If your child has had a
Tdap shot after the age of seven, please bring proof to BHS immediately to
the Health Center or the front office. Thanks for your cooperation.
2. Attention students taking PHYSICS: students who signed up for Physics
next year, not AP or IB, please see Mr. McHugh in G214 at lunch all this
week.
3. Yearbooks are for sale after school in H102B for $80. Please make checks
payable to BHS Yearbook. Students with free/reduced lunch will still
receive a discount. Seniors - only 350 books left. Get them soon.
4. The Health Center will be closed today, May 20th.
5. The Delphic Oracle project is accepting reflective submissions by
students to compile into a publication. Get published by reflecting about
your high school experience. Chapter Director positions available. Get the
guided reflections online on facebook at the Delphic Oracle page or from
C115.
CLUBS
1.Want to be a writer? A photographer? An illustrator? Join the Jacket!
Come to C400 for an application! Due May 27th!
2. Students, do you want to give back positively to your community? Are you
interested in helping the youth of the next generation? Join Young People's
Program to advocate the importance of education. YPP is a BHS Student run
mentoring program for underprivileged Middle school students, we're
accepting applications until May 30th, 2011. Application is available
online as well as email youngpeoplesprogram at gmail.com.
*3. Earphone English Club - Come to club this Friday to listen to "City of
Bones" and to hear about our field trip next Friday in C124 at lunch.
SPORTS
Anyone interested in playing Basketball next year: there will be open gym
for boys starting every Monday and Wednesday from 4-6pm in the old gym
(Boys-upstairs). Hope to see you there. Coach McNeill.
SENIORS
1. Diplomas will be mailed during the week of July 11, 2011. You will need
to provide your SUMMER MAILING ADDRESS if different from the one currently
on file at Berkeley High School . You will need to provide your updated
address to the Registrar's office at lunch time and after school (ONLY)
until 3:45pm, Monday through Friday from now until June 10, 2011. If you do
not receive your diploma by the end of July 2011, you will need to check
with the registrar's office (room D173) in August.
2. If you're planning to participate in Asian Graduation, June 11th, please
remember to sign up to get your sash! Each sash is $23. To sign up go to
C334 at lunch or after school. Deadline is today.
3. Seniors! Looking to get published? Want to get your voice heard? The
class of 2011 is publishing a guidebook for the future generations of
Berkeley High School . Submit your responses to C115. Surveys are
available online at school or contact your English teachers.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
John Muir Elementary School is looking for BHS volunteers for our annual
May Fair, Thursday, May 19. It's a big fundraiser for our school and we
need help running games, supervising activities and with cleaning up. John
Muir is the smallest elementary school in the BUSD. We're located near the
Claremont Hotel near the 49 bus stop. Join the fun - you'll earn volunteer
hours and get a free dinner to boot. Please contact Barbara Steuart at

questions.
EVENTS
1. Dance Production concert, "On Demand:" What do war, protest, the BP Oil
Spill, infomercials, TRON, Bad Girls Club, and Lifetime dramas all have in
common? Come find out in this spring's, with works by outstanding student
choreographers, dance instructor Linda Carr, and guest artist, Lauren
Benjamin. May 26 & 27 at 7:00pm, Little Theater. Arrive early for seating
-- these shows sell out. And note the early start time: 7:00 sharp! $5
student/$12 general
2. BHS African American Studies Department presents MANY FACES - A look
through dance of the transitions that have occurred in the lives of young
people; their challenges, joys, and successes. The concert will include
African, Modern, hip hop, jazz, salsa, Bollywood, gospel, spoken word,
visuals to tell life from the students' perspective. This event will take
place May 20th, 2011 at 7PM in the Berkeley Community Theater at 1980
Allston Way @ Martin Luther King Jr Way in Berkeley , 94704.

reserved; $8 for general; $5 for students, senior citizens, and children.
Proceeds will benefit the African Haitian Dance Program. Tickets are $5.00
for teachers available on site. Please come and support the students.
SUMMER
New This Summer -- Music Day Camps at Willard Middle School. These brand new
half-day summer camps will be led by BUSD music teachers, and assisted by
Berkeley High Students. Camps are open to students going into 6th grade, and
advanced students going into 5th grade by permission
of the instructors. Students should be able to read music reasonably well.
Activities include large ensemble and small ensemble playing, master
classes, listening sessions, group warm-ups, rehearsals, and fun outdoor
games. On the Friday at the end of each session there will be a concert for
families and friends.
Space is still available. Come join us! BUSD students will be issued
instruments for the week(s) they are in camp. Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
daily. Cost: $175/week with some scholarships available for BUSD students!
