Dear BHS Community Members,

Next week is the annual Week of Service hosted by The Executive Student
Leadership Team, led by ASB Chief of Service Flora Ziprin. The slogan is
"Remember YESTERDAY, to know how to act TODAY, to make TOMORROW better."

Please consider the importance of a positive school culture when it comes to
matters of safety, attendance, achievement, student self-esteem and
empowerment. We STRONGLY encourage you to take some time with your student
to talk about any of the themes for the week and ways she/he might be
involved. Detailed information in the form of a word document is attached
or can be emailed upon request.

The theme for each day is as follows:

Monday, March 28 - Step it Up Day

Tuesday, March 29 - Global Awareness Day

Wednesday, March 30 - Peace-Building Day

Thursday, March 31 - Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning (official BUSD
in-school holiday)

Friday, April 1 - Community Day

The Executive Student Leadership Team strongly encourages your student to
participate in the following ways:

1. Ask your teacher to bring the class to see Daniel Mora during 3rd, 4th,
or 5th period on Wednesday. This dynamic speaker should be worth the
instructional time sacrificed. More info:

2. Dress up for each day (suggestions on the info sheet). Prizes for lucky
raffle winners.

3. Bring in canned/packaged food or money for Japan relief efforts.
Canned/packaged food can be dropped off in the administrative building.
Money will be collected for Japan relief during second period on Tuesday,
March 29.

4. Ask your teacher to bring your class to the Food Bank presentations on
Monday (2nd and 3rd period in the CCC) to learn about poverty and hunger in
Alameda County.

5. Plant a seed for a community garden on Thursday and buy a taco to support
the United Farm Workers.

Thank you,

The Executive Student Leadership Team
