ADMINISTRATION

 

No school, Monday, January 17, 2011 in observance of the Martin Luther King
Jr., holiday.

 

1. PE Waivers are ready for pick-up- Please come by the counseling center to
pick up your waivers.  They must be signed and returned back to the
counseling center by Friday, January 21st.

 

2. BSEP applications are now available for the fall 2011-2012 school year.
Pick one up in the administration office from Belinda McDaniel, or send an
email request to bmcdaniel at berkeley.k12.ca.us for a digital copy.  Deadline
is February 25th. Don't delay, or you will miss out on this grant
opportunity.

 

3. Winter Ball tickets are on sale. Get them for only $25.  Tickets are sold
on the senior steps.  You must have student ID to purchase a ticket.  The
set-up will be more extravagant than ever including a replica of the Eiffel
Tower, fountains and special lightning.  February 12, 2011 from 7-11 pm at
the BHS Jacket Gym. Any students with three or more overdue textbooks will
not be able to purchase tickets for the Winter Ball.  Please see Ms. Reed in
the textbook room to return books or clear fines.  

 

*4. Give blood, save a life! Please donate blood to help the student body of
BHS meet their goal of at least sixty pints donated next Wednesday, January
19 in the lobby of the Community Theater between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm.
Appointments can be made online at

code: BERKELEYHS.  Follow instructions to make your appointment.  

 

CLUBS

 

Cooking club on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 3:30 in H106. Fun, food and friends!
Indian dish cuisine.

 

SENIORS

 

Senior yearbook pages are on sale in H102B during 7th period only.  Come
soon as space fills quickly. Yearbooks are for sale at myyear.com

 

COLLEGE/CAREER/SUMMER PROGRAMS

 

1. Students will be able to pick up their PSAT results on the following days
at lunch and after school in the College Career Center D221: Friday, January
21; Friday, January 28th. Scores cannot be given to parents.  Students must
show BHS ID in order to receive scores!

 

2. Important! Cal Grants are due to the BHS Registrar by February 7th!  You
can pick up the form in the College Career Center or in the Counseling
Department.  Don't delay!  The registrar's office is D173.

 

3. Would you like to spend this summer immersed in another culture living
with a host family and building ties that can last a lifetime? Are you
interested in arts exploration, eco-adventure or community service? Come
Wednesday night, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. to the College and Career Center to hear
about The Experiment in International Living and its world-wide programs.
Now is the time to apply. Parents are encouraged to attend this meeting.

 

4. Berkeley Community Fund Scholarship; come to a meeting on Wednesday,
January 19, during lunch in the College/Career Center to find out how to
apply for this scholarship.  The Community fund offers scholarships of
$4,000 per year for four years will be awarded to Berkeley High Students who
demonstrate financial need. In addition, other one-time scholarships may
also be awarded.  Sign up in the College Center D221 to attend the meeting.

 

SPORTS 

 

*All students interested in playing badminton must attend a meeting at lunch
in the Jacket Gym on Tuesday, January 18.

 

EVENTS

 

1. Act, Sing, & Dance in YMTC's Pocket Broadway. YMTC's training workshop,
Pocket Broadway, begins in February; we are now open for registration.
Develop and deepen your singing, acting, and dancing skills, while working
on exciting and challenging material from an array of musicals. Workshop
runs for 9 weeks, February 28 through May 7 (no workshop March 31 or the
week of April 3); works-in-progress performances May 6 & 7.  No auditions -
all students in grades 7 and up are welcome. Tuition: $400; tuition

Monday, Jan 17th, gathering at 10:30am at Jefferson Elementary School on
Rose/Sacramento

11:00am March down Rose St to King Middle School on Rose/Grant 

11:30am-12:30pm Program at King Middle School with performances and guest
speakers

1:00pm Day of Service at various Berkeley schools

Light refreshments
