Delta Jazz Festival in Stockton

Congratulations to the BHS Jazz Ensemble, combos and Lab Band 2 for their
outstanding day at the Delta Jazz Festival in Stockton last Saturday.
Combo A and Combo B won first and second place in the combo competition,
and the Jazz Ensemble received a unanimous superior rating and third place
in the top band division. Outstanding musicianship awards went to Michael
Orenstein, Sam Klein-Markman, Elena Pinderhughes and Grant Milliken from
the Ensemble, and Nora Stanley and Monte Metal from Lab Band 2. The jazz
program is under the direction of Scott Dailey. Pictures and audio of the
performances are available on the BHS Jazz website:

More kudos for Berkeley High Jazz

Last Thursday, December 2, the Ensemble and Combo A entertained
approximately 3,000 school board members and other school officials from
across California at a statewide conference in San Francisco. The groups
received a lengthy standing ovation, and one person connected with the
conference said it was the best student entertainment they had ever had.
Another win for Berkeley High!

Alumni Updates

Finally, BHS jazz alumni members of the "Thirstbusters" have a new music
video filmed in Berkeley on Cambio.com (http://lnk.ms/GrCf5). The group
met in the Jazz Ensemble and graduated in '08 and '09. Video director
Monique Sorgen is also a Berkeley High alum.
