2011 BERKELEY HIGH SCHOOL 8TH GRADE REGISTRATION PROCESS

1. The Berkeley High 8th Grade Information Night 2010 for all incoming
families will take place on Wednesday, February 2 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in
the Berkeley Community Theater on the Berkeley High School campus. At
Information Night representatives from departments and our six learning
communities - Academic Choice, Arts and Humanities Academy, Berkeley
International High School, Communications Arts and Sciences, Community
Partnerships Academy, and the Green Academy- will make presentations and
be available to answer questions. Information Night is an important step
in learning about Berkeley High's many elective choices and learning
community options so students can make an informed decision about Berkeley
High School. All students, parents and guardians should plan on attending.
Students must be accompanied by an adult. Spanish translation will be
available. There will be no make-up for this event. Course Catalogues
and Choices Brochures will be provided on this night.

2. 8th Grade Students who are already enrolled in BUSD will be
automatically rolled over into Berkeley High. There is no need for
students from King, Longfellow, or Willard to contact either the
Admissions office or Berkeley High School. A BHS Administrator and
counselor will go to the Middle School sites to meet with parents and
gather student course and learning community requests. These meetings are
for parents from BUSD middle schools only. During the school days
following the parent meeting, BHS counselors will go to the Middle Schools
to gather course and learning community requests.

Parent meetings will take place from 6:00-7:00 on the following nights;
Spanish translation will be available:

Longfellow, March 1

Willard, March 8

King, March 15

3. Families coming from non-BUSD schools must enroll in the District
before they can make learning community or course requests. Enrollment is
a two-part process: pre-enrollment and enrollment. Following enrollment
with this district, students may register for classes and learning
communities.

4. Pre-Enrollment (not for current BUSD families):

Starting January 17, families can log on to
http://www.berkeley.net/index.php?page=high-school to pre-enroll in the
District. Pre-enrollment via the web will end on Sunday, February 13 at
4:00 pm. If you do not have web access, you may use a computer on the BHS
campus at the Parent Resource Center from 9:00-3:00 starting January 18,
2011.

5. Enrollment (not for current BUSD families):

Following Pre-Enrollment, a parent or guardian must come into the
Admissions Office (1835 Allston Way) to enroll with the district. A
receipt of completed enrollment, with a student ID #, will be given to
you. If you did not already pre-enroll, you may do so on the day you
enroll. The office will be open the week of 2/14-2/17 for high school age
enrollment from 8:00 to 12:00 and 12:45 to 2:30. No high school
enrollment for 2011-2012 will take place before this week and those who
enroll after 2/17 will: a) Not be in the first lottery run for learning
community; and b) Not be allowed to enroll until after March 21.

In order to minimize wait times, we are advising that new families adhere
to the following schedule:

Last Names Please come to Admissions on.

A-F February 14

G-L February 15

M-S February 16

T-Z February 17

If you are unable to make your assigned day we will accommodate you;
however, adherence to the schedule will help us manage the volume of
students we must process and allow us to serve all families in a more
efficient manner.

receive more information about the lottery selection process at the
Information Night.

8. Registration:

Students who are new to BUSD, and have completed the enrollment process by
February 17, will make course requests in the BHS Library from 6-8pm on
three different dates:

allotted time. Students will have their choices mailed to them. Any
corrections must be returned promptly.

9. Missed Enrollment Deadline:

Students who are new to BUSD but miss the February 17 enrollment deadline
must enroll at the Admissions Office after March 21. Another lottery run
will take place for these students and they will be placed in a learning

these students starting in late April and will be done by appointment with
the counselor.
