STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

ADMINISTRATION

1. BSEP meeting, October 4, 2010, 4:30 - 6 pm. Conference room B. Please be in attendance, all members, parents and staff. 

2. Attention Jacket Staff: if you are currently on the Jacket and need help with your assignment, please come to C400 after school Monday through Thursday for drop-in help. Also, come by THIS WEEK to get enrolled, if the Jacket is not on your schedule.

3. Receive tutoring community service internship credit by tutoring in the Mathworks program at Willard Middle school on Mondays from 4-5 pm. Meet Monday, October 4th at 3:45 pm on the Berkeley Community Theater steps or contact Willardmmathworks at gmail.com

4. BART tickets have arrived, you can pick them up during lunch time only. If you didn't pre-order tickets, the next time you can pre-order will be September 29th.

5. Spirit Week is the last week of October, and it will come faster than you think!! So we need T-shirts designs now! And yes it's a contest. The winner gets the t-shirt free and a spirit pack. Tickets to a dance of your choice or a VISA gift card!!! Submit your t-shirt designs to the leadership office by October 1st. Your design should be for the front and the back of the shirt!

6. Annual BHS Jazz T-Shirt Contest: Become a famous graphic artist and be the envy of all your friends. Create the artwork and design for 2010-11 BHS Jazz T-Shirt. Artwork entries are due in the Band Room (A-201) by Wednesday, October 13. Voting by all BHS Jazz students will take place the following day. Pick up an entry flyer from Mr. Dailey in the Band Room today. Good luck!!

7. Need Tutoring hours? Join Writer's Connection and help students at King Middle school improve their basic English Language skills! We meet only once a week after school at King. We're looking for enthusiastic new tutors.

CLUBS

*1. Do you care about climate change? Do you want to learn about the initiative process? Do you want to make a difference in our community? Do you want to earn community service hours? Then come to G207 on Thursday, September 29 at lunch and meet with Students Against Texas Dirty Energy Initiative. *2. Come to our first eco-community meeting today Wednesday, September 29. After school in Room G217. If you love your environment and want to make a difference come out to our first meeting and support us.

*3. There are more slaves today then any other time in history. Do your part to help free people from modern-day slavery and raise awareness about the horrors of human-trafficking. Join club REACH and make a difference! Come to our first meeting of the year on Wednesday September 29th at lunch in room C315 to learn more about our club. There will be treats to eat, people to meet and it's a great cause. Fight slavery, join REACH!

4. California Scholarship Federation Applications for this Fall (for Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors) are now available in the College and Career Center! They are due this Friday, October 1st.

5. To all Chicano/Latino members please check outside the Leadership Office for meeting times and place.

6. Do you need community service hours? Would you like to travel to a developing country to help build schools? Then come join buildON!! We meet every Tuesday in C317 at lunch.

7. Do you want to make beats, produce music, or perform and record your singing/rapping/poetry? Would you like to learn how to be an audio engineer? If so, come to C400 on Monday, October 4th at 3:30 pm for an orientation to use the Sound Studio in C400. That's the top floor of the C building. This is a great opportunity to produce your own CDs. Be there!

8. Do you love drone and noise music? Do you have a burning desire to have harsh experimental music penetrate your ear drums? Come to C127 during lunch on Tuesdays where you will have the opportunity to discuss and listen to your favorite type of music with like-minded individuals.

9. Join us for an informational meeting about Berkeley High's cooking club. Thursday after school in H106, snacks provided.

SENIORS

College Visits - Seniors only. Seniors, sign up in advance in the College/Career Center and pick up a permission slip. The complete list, updated weekly, is available at

SOPHOMORES/JUNIORS

1. All Sophomores, if you are STILL interested in dancing be dressed and ready in the dance room by 3:45 pm. Time is ticking down so if you are interested in dancing for rally, practice is today.

2. The PSAT is being offered at Berkeley High on Saturday, October 16th. Sign ups began on Monday, September 27 at lunch and after school to 4pm at the Accountant's office, D173. Registration ends on October 8. The fee is $22 cash, check or money order payable to Berkeley High School. All tenth and eleventh graders are urged to take this practice test.

SPORTS

1. Looking for athletes to join Women's Crew! See Coach Simon O'Neill in G305 for information.

2. If you want to join Women's LaCrosse come to the football field Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 - 5:30 pm and the Derby field on Wednesdays from 6-7 pm. No experience necessary, come on out and play.

JOBS/INTERNSHIPS

*1. Starry Plough is looking for several students with a great work ethic to post promotional flyers around town, 5-10 students to work 1-2 hours per week each. Pay is $10 an hour. If a dedicated student is interested and reliable to work more hours, that opportunity can be discussed.

2. Youthworks Employment Program in the Department of Housing and Community Services will accept applications beginning October 1st through November 5th for the winter/after school program. Qualified youth ages 14 – 25. The pay is $8 an hour. To apply you need to go in person to the Youthworks office. For more information call 981-4970 or email youthworks at cityofberkeley.info.
